NJPW New Japan Cup 2018: Day 8

SHOTA UMINO vs. REN NARITA - 5.75/10

A very good Young Lions match.

TOA HENARE, TOGI MAKABE, & TOMOYUKI OKA vs. BULLET CLUB (Bad Luck Fale, Tonga Loa, & Yujrio Takahashi) - 6.75/10

CHAOS (Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano) vs. SUZUKI-GUN (Takashi Iizuka & Taichi) - DUD!

Suzuki-Gun jumped the bell on their opponents. This match was the same old sh*t except that this time there actually was a DQ.

KOTA IBUSHI & CHASE OWENS vs. JUICE ROBINSON & MICHAEL ELGIN - 6.25/10

So have we ever gotten an explanation for why Kota is randomly teaming with Bullet Club guys now? Wouldn't it make more sense for the angle if he never teamed with Bullet Club unless Omega was there (in other words, that he's not teaming with Bullet Club; he's teaming with Kenny, who happens to be in Bullet Club).

KILLER ELITE SQUAD vs. CHAOS (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI) - 6.5/10

LOS INGOBERNABLES DE JAPON (Hiromu Takahashi, BUSHI, & Hiromu Takahashi) vs. SUZUKI-GUN (Minoru Suzuki, El Desperado, & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) - 7/10

HIROSHI TANAHASHI & DAVID FINLAY JR. vs. CHUCK TAYLOR & KAZUCHIKA OAKDA (w/Gedo) - 7.25/10

Okada and Tanahashi are always great together, but Finlay vs. Chuckie T is definitely a match I want to see now.

NEW JAPAN CUP SEMIFINAL MATCH:
Sanada vs. Zack Sabre Jr. (w/TAKA Michinoku) - 9/10

This match was about fifteen minutes of great technical wrestling, followed by ten minutes of these two figuring out how many different ways Zack could use his signature stuff to get put in and then get out of Sanada's signature stuff. It was AWESOME.

Final Thoughts
A pretty great show from New Japan, aside from the dud. The main event was awesome, and the undercard far exceeded expectations from what we've been getting this tour.
