OH Death Before Dishonor II, Part 2 (7/24/2004)- Chicago Ridge, IL

CHAD COLLYER vs. ROCKY ROMERO (w/the Rottweilers)- 6/10

JIMMY JACOBS vs. ALEX SHELLEY (w/Generation Next)- 6.25/10.
Good match that put Shelley over while establishing that Jacobs has a lot of heart and determination.

Shelley then gets on the mic, and then takes way too long announcing to everyone that Generation Next will beat Jimmy Jacobs up, so that when they finally start, Ricky Steamboat quickly comes out and makes the save. Steamboat cuts a promo, and Walters and Striker come out and kick Gen Next’s a**, leading to:

MATT STRYKER & JOHN WALTERS (w/Ricky Steamboat) vs. RODERICK STRONG & JACK EVANS (w/Alex Shelley)- 5.75/10.
A good match, but Steamboat got too involved for my liking, and when he started to brawl with Gen. Next, I thought it took too much attention away from the guys in the ring.

SIX MAN MAYHEM MATCH: Trent Acid vs. Matt Sydal vs. Delirious vs. Shawn Daivari vs. Danny Daniels vs. The Great Kazushi- 4.75/10.
Not much going on here, and nothing too cool. No real angle, the only one who was remotely impressive was Sydal.

ROH PURE TITLE MATCH: Doug Williams(c) vs. Austin Aries- 7.75/10.
Great wrestling.

MARK BRISCOE vs. LOW KI (w/the Rottweilers)- 7.75/10.
Great storytelling. They are doing an AWESOME job with the Rottweilers.

JAY BRISCOE vs. HOMICIDE (w/the Rottweilers)- 7/10.
Essentially the previous match, but worse. It still did a good job of getting over the Rottweilers as a concept… just not as good a job as the previous match.

ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Samoa Joe(c) vs. Colt Cabana- 7.5/10.
Good match with good build up, but there was never really a point where you thought that Cabana was going to win.
After the match, but Rottweilers come out and attack Joe, but the Briscoes chase them off with chairs.

ALLISON DANGER PROMO- great

CHICAGO STREET FIGHT: Maff & Whitmer vs. CM Punk & Ace Steel- 8/10
(although people who like ultraviolent matches will probably like this more)

They did one spot that I really didn’t like: All four men were in the ring and had chairs, and they did the spot where they let each other hit them to see who is tougher. With forearm shots or chops, this is fine, but it seems WAY too kayfabe stupid with chairshots (unless you just have two guys going in there with no backstory other than â€"let’s see who is tougher). Here, in a blood feud, it makes even less sense. If these guys hate each other so much, who do they trust that the other team will hit them once, then give them their turn? If it is such an intense hatred, shouldn’t the first team just keep smacking the other team with the chairs?
This match also had a chair riot, which I despise because they are so dangerous (this didn’t seem to be the wrestlers fault, but rather that of some dumb fans who started throwing their own chairs, and then everyone else who was dumb enough to join in). Props to Gabe for his â€"WATCH YOUR HEAD, MARK!” comment. ROH commentary isn’t live, so it is sometimes very hard to make it seem like it is, but this is the type of thing that helps that a lot.

After the match, Generation Next comes out and attacks the Second City Saints. Cabana comes out to defend his stablemates, but he gets beat down as well. Ricky Steamboat comes out, and Gen. Next beats him down and tapes him to the ropes, making him watch while they beat down the Second City Saints

Overall, a very strong show, but not too many matches that you should go out of your way to see. Pick it up if you can but don’t sell an arm and a leg for it.
