ROH The Hunt For Gold (1/18/2013)- Dearborn, MI

BOBBY FISH & KYLE O’REILLY vs. BJ WHITMER & RHETT TITUS- 5.75/10

STEVE CORINO vs. JAY LETHAL- 5/10
Steve Corino tells Lethal that he needs to apologize to SCUM. Lethal tells him to go to hell. Corino then says that he had sex with Lethal’s mother and after way too much talking on Corino’s part, we are underway.

SILAS YOUNG vs. RODERICK STRONG- 7/10

ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Kevin Steen(c) vs. Tadarius Thomas- 6.25/10
The crowd was behind Thomas but his pinfalls really pissed me off. He always hooked the leg… but almost never put any weight on Steen’s shoulders. It drove me nuts.

HANDICAP MATCH: Charlie Haas vs. Brent Daniels & Trey Miguel-
This started off as Miguel vs. Daniels but Charlie Haas interrupted the match early on and challenged them to a handicap match. As I’m sure you’ve already guessed, this was a squash. Charlie putting put guys in the Haas of Pain at the same time was pretty cool.

PROVING GROUND MATCH: ROH TV Champion Adam Cole vs. Jimmy Jacobs- 8.5/10
AWESOME match! Jimmy’s best singles performance in a very long time. Proving Ground matches now apparently have longer time limit, which should help the concept be a bit less lame. Steve Corino was doing commentary for this match (along with Kevin Kelly and Nigel) and the instant that Jaocbs locked Cole in an abdominal stretch, Corino shouted “Yeah! Stick your thumb in there!”

MICHAEL ELGIN vs. RHINO- 6.5/10

ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Briscoe Brothers(c) vs. The American Wolves- 8/10
The standard awesomeness you would expect from these two team. I really enjoyed the Wolves going for Day of the Wolves for the first time since the spring of 2009. The finish was a little awkward though. They did one of those spots where the guy kicks out but the ref’s hand is so close that tit hits the mat anyway, then the ref immediately negates the bell… then they just him one more finisher and got the win. It just felt pointless.

Overall, a great start to the year for ROH. Definitely worth picking up.
