3PW 1st Year Anniversary Show (2/15/2003)- Philadelphia, PA
JEFF ROCKER vs. PRINCE NANA (w/Mr. Showtime)- 4/10
I don’t think I have ever seen Nana win a non-squash before.
GARY WOLFE & RAVEN SEGMENT- bad
Raven cuts what should be a heelish promo saying that he doesn't want to wrestle in the opener and says that he won't leave the ring until he is given a title shot, but the crowd pops for it. Then Gary Wolfe comes out, calls Raven a jobber and then adds him into the main event. Oh yeah. And Meanie is standing in the ring this whole time, not doing anything
RAVEN vs. THE BLUE MEANIE (w/Mini Meanie)- DUD!
Raven squashes Meanie. I know it makes sense, considering their history in ECW, but Meanie is a big enough name in 3PW that he shouldn't be getting squashed, even by Raven. Guys in 3PW should be allowed to grow from what their ECW role was (the way that Gary Wolfe and Joey Matthews have), or else the whole thing feels like a poorly-booked ECW.
NO DISQUALIFICATION MATCH: The Rockin' Rebel vs. Jason Knight (w/Jasmin St. Claire)- 1.5/10
The Rebel and Jason are two of the biggest heels in the company. The Rebel for his heel promos and just being downright unlikable, and Jason for being the guy that Jasmin turned on Meanie for and for being downright unlikable. Naturally, they are booked into a No DQ's match against each other (and no, I’m not sure why they had to specify this as a No DQ's match when every other 3PW match seems to have had no disqualifications without any sort of specification) which makes about as much sense as anything else on a 3PW card. Rebel tries to talk his way out of the match by bringing up their history in ECW and their and friendship, but we get a fake handshake and Jason clotheslines him. What was the purpose of this swerve?
During this match, they got in a spanking spot on Jasmin. That's right. The person who gets his hands on Jasmin is not her ex-boyfriend whom she betrayed and dumped, the super-over babyface Blue Meanie (who even did a run-in in this very match!), but instead it is the hated heel Rockin' Rebel. WTF?!
After the match, Rebel grabs the mic and says that "XPW & Rob Black can suck my dick," which prompts the announcers to say "never heard of them" and "Rebel must be really desperate for some action!" dissing both a heel and your competition at the same time! Now that is good commentary.
KID KRUEL vs. KID KASH- 6.5/10
Very good match
BALLS MAHONEY & NOSAWA vs. DA HIT SQUAD- 6.5/10
Ultra hard-hitting match. Everyone looked good, and Balls pulled out some cool stuff, including a leg-cradle Russian Leg Sweep. The story of the match (aside from four tough, hard-hitting MoFos going at it) was that NOSAWA and Balls has some miscues, and resulted in Balls challenging NOSAWA to a Falls Count Anywhere match on the next show. A very good match and a good post-match segment.
WET T-SHIRT CONTEST- fun segment.
This was the "3PW version of American Idol" so they had judges. The judges were Jasmin St. Claire, Mini Meanie, & Tod Gordon, and they did a decent American Idol style panel of two nice judges and one mean one. This was the usual 3PW boobs segment (which is to say that it serves no purpose on the show at all, and if you are watching the show for this, you should probably just go watch porn instead)… until, while the judges are in the middle of voting, out comes the last contestant: NICOLE BASS!
I broke out laughing! After some hijinks, Missy Hyatt cut a promo saying that Jasmin was afraid to face her in a wet t-shirt contest, leading to a catfight and setting up for a Bra and Panties match at the next show. This actually wound up being very fun and actually built to something for the next show.
ECKOS & STRIKER PROMO- kind of fun. Broke kayfabe in a fun and silly way, but at least it kind of played into Striker's gimmick.
JOSH DANIELS & DAMIEN ADAMS vs. MATT STRIKER & ROB ECKOS- 5.75/10
Daniels & Adams looked good, Striker was tons of fun.
LOW KI vs. HOMICIDE- 8.5/10
F*CKING AWESOME! This match blows every other 3PW match so far out of the water! Tons of awesome stuff in this match! Just go watch it!
THREE WAY DANCE FOR THE 3PW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: "Pitbull" Gary Wolfe(c) vs. Raven vs. Xavier-6.5/10
TERRY FUNK vs. SABU- 6/10
Not good enough for a main event, and putting Funk over really doesn't make much sense here. Typical 3PW.
Overall, a great show from 3PW (now there’s a sentence I never thought I'd type!). They had good wrestling, an awesome match between Cide and Ki, there was very little stupid and pointless overbooking, and best of all no sh*tty Annihilation chokeslams in sight! It almost feels like a different company!
STUPID ANNOUNCER QUOTES:
1. Mike Winters (after Rocker does a couple of hip tosses and arm drags to Nana)- "This Jeff Rocker, he rocks the house, quite frankly. He definitely has the basics down"
Yeah, "having the basics down" is not the sort of thing that rocks the house.
