ROH The Final Showdown (5/13/2005)- Dayton, OH

ALEX SHELLEY PROMO- AWESOME!

HOMICIDE PROMO- slightly less awesome, but not by much.

OPENING SEGMENT- Aries tells a female fan â€"if I wanted you to open your mouth, I’d drop my pants.” Just awesome! Aries then starts to cut a promo but Alex Shelley comes out and tosses all three of them out of the ring, then tells dares Roddy to face him without Aries and Evans at ringside, so we get…

ALEX SHELLEY vs. RODERICK STRONG- 7.25/10
GREAT opener!

JIMMY RAVE PROMO- eh.

MATT STRYKER vs. THE MASKED CHICAGO SUPERSTAR- 2/10
Possibly the first time I’ve ever heard a chant of â€"LET’S GO JOBBER!”

DRAGON (LACK OF) PROMO- geez. Someone is intense.

SAMOA JOE PROMO- Joe says that if anyone pins him in this match, he will let them be the Pure Champion. I don’t think this move was ever officially sanctioned by ROH, so I’m not sure what the purpose of the promo was.

FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL MATCH: Samoa Joe vs. Jack Evans vs. Delirious vs. Ebetaroh- 7/10
Of course, with Delirious and Ebetaroh involved in a match, you know you’ll wind up with some odd commentary moments, such as â€"I don’t know if those shoes are legal.” â€"But they sure are tasty.” This match had some great comedy punctuated by some great action. Just oodles of fun.

JAMES GIBSON PROMO- Jamie introduces is to his trainer, Danny Ray, who will be accompanying him to ringside tonight.

ROH TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Jimmy Jacobs & BJ Whitmer(c) vs. CM Punk & Ace Steel- 7/10
Punk and Whitmer finally shaking hands after the match was good moment.

After the match Prince Nana comes out and cuts a promo on Punk, leading Jimmy Rave coming out to fight Punk while there is a big random brawl on the outside. Jade Chung gets involved, giving Rave the advantage, but Matt Sydal and Daizee Haze come out to make the save, which leads to…

JIMMY RAVE (w/Prince Nana & Jade Chung) vs. MATT SYDAL (w/Daizee Haze)- 7/10
This match was all about getting Sydal over as an underdog babyface and boy did it ever succeed. Sydal’s offense looked great (including an ultra-cool Gory Special transitioned into a backslide) and Rave going for AJ and Punk’s moves got great heat going into the cage match against Punk the next night.

COLT CABANA & DOUG WILLIAMS vs. NIGEL MCGUINNESS & CHAD COLLYER- 6.75/10

ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Austin Aries(c) vs. James Gibson (w/Danny Ray)- 7.5/10
Good wrestling, and you got to see Gibson do stuff he hadn’t done in a long time, like a moonsault, but I really didn’t like the finish, especially Gibson getting up so fast after the Brainbuster.

SAMOA JOE PROMO- Joe says that he will now make the Pure Title mean something, just like he did with the World Title. Then Alex Shelley shows up and asks to form an alliance with Joe against Generation Next, but Joe turns him down, saying that it is Shelley’s fault that he has problems with Generation Next in the first place.

STEEL CAGE MATCH FOR AN ROH WORLD TITLE SHOT TOMORROW NIGHT: Bryan Danielson vs. Homicide- 7.5/10
A great match with a lame finish. They did a lot of call-backs to their other matches but an airplane spin as a finish? Really? Anyway, the real reason to get this DVD is Dragon’s entrance music, which is a mash-up of Self Esteem by the Offspring and the Imperial Match from Star Wars! After the match they finally shake hands, ending this long, hated feu- SON OF A BITCH! Cide suckers Dragon!

BRYAN DANIELSON PROMO- good. Dragon says that after he beats Aries to win the ROH World Title tomorrow night, the first person he will give a title shot to is Cide.

Overall, this was a great show with every match on the card other than the Stryker match being great, but none of the matches really feel like anything you need to go out of your way to see. Like a worse version of the previous show, Manhattan Mayhem.
