ROH Suffocation (10/27/2006)- Dayton , OH
HOMICIDE PROMO- dragged on way too long (although Homicide make a Voltron reference is not something I ever thought I’d hear.
AUSTIN ARIES PROMO- decent
BRYAN DANIELSON vs. SAL RINAURO (w/Jimmy Rave)- 4.5/10
Dragon hitting Sal with the Elbow Strikes, then pinning the him with a small package got a laugh. After the match Jimmy Rave attacked Sal, then demanded that Shingo come out for their match.
JIMMY RAVE vs. SHINGO- 6.5/10
BRENT ALBRIGHT PROMO- good
IRISH AIRBORNE vs. LACEY’S ANGELS (Jimmy Jacobs & Colt Cabana) (w/Lacey)- 5.25/10
Before the match started, BJ Whtimer showed up and cut a great promo telling Jimmy that when he got back from his injury, he would try to break his neck. Great stuff.
The match itself had some very good storytelling, which Jacobs and Cabana now actively working together, using some double team moves. They did a great of slowly evolving this angle with Jimmy and Colt (and Lacey). At Glory By Honor weekend Cabana was actively making fun of Jimmy and making him look like an idiot whenever they tried tag team moves, but then, on the next weekend of shows, Cabana saw how sad the whole thing was making Jimmy and tried to be friendly with him, whole Jimmy had trouble trusting him, and now, this weekend, they are working together as a team.
Unfortunately for them, though, they lose the match, and Lacey is not happy. She berates Jacobs for getting pinned, but Cabana steps in and defends Jimmy, telling lacey that everyone loses matches once in a while. Great stuff!
TANK TOLAND PROMO & SEGMENT WITH SAL RINAURO- Toland cut a good promo. Sal then showed up and brought up Tank’s time in WWE, which didn’t sit well with Toland, who got violent with Sal.
CHRISTOPHER DANIELS vs. BRENT ALBRIGHT- 6.5/10
Albright looked good in his debut, but I’m really not sure why they had Daniels go over here. With the way the match was going it seemed like Albright winning would have accomplished more.
FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL MATCH: Mark Briscoe vs. Roderick Strong vs. Tank Toland vs. Chris Hero- 5.5/10
Very disappointing, considering the talent involved, although Roddy going over Hero build Aries & Roddy up for their eventual rematch, and Claudio jumping Roddy right afterwards got the heels their heat back right away (and also nicely transitioned into…)
AUSTIN ARIES vs. CLAUIDO CASTAGNOLI- 6.25/10
Once again, the babyface gets the win and the heels attack after the match. I’m fine with this because it is the same feud, but if it wasn’t it would feel too repetitive.
LACEY’S ANGELS BACKSTAGE- GREAT! Lacey threatens to make Jimmy’s life even more miserable if he loses again, then gives him just a taste of what that would be like by making out with Cabana in front of him. Cabana tells Lacey to show some consideration for Jimmy’s feelings, but Lacey tells Cabana that now that he is in Lacey’s Angels, he has to do what she says. This doesn’t sit well with Cabana, but before they can say anything else, BJ Whitmer runs in and spears Jacobs out a door, and they brawl.
DAVEY RICHARDS vs. JAY BRISCOE- 6.5/10
A good win for Davey, and a good showing by Jay in just his third singles matches since the Briscoes returned.
DELIRIOUS vs. MATT SYDAL- 7/10
Great couple of nearfalls at the end, and a great story of two guys who just know each other very well.
RELAXED RULES MATCH: Samoa Joe & Homicide vs. Steve Corino & Adam Pearce (w/Shane Hagadorn & Jim Cornette)- 6.5/10
Not good enough for a main event, and just a disappointing match. After the match, Cornette, the Briscoes, and Adam Pearce all beat Homicide down before Corino tries to suffocate Homicide with a plastic bag. Until Matt Sydal, Delirious, Davey Richards, Austin Aries, & Roderick Strong all show up to make the save. Prazak did a good job of putting over how wrong it is for the commissioner to be involved in this sort of thing, but other than that, this match really didn’t do anything.
Overall, a bad show from ROH. One of the worst in ROH history. Plain and simple, this show is just not ROH quality. Stay away from it unless you are a completionist.
