ROH Sign of Dishonor (7/8/2005)- Lake Grove, NY-
CM PUNK SIGNS HIS WWE CONTRACT ON THE ROH WORLD TITLE- GENUIS! Grrr! This made me SOOOO MAD! The last time I can remember being this angry was while watching ROH Hell Freezes Over, when Chris Hero promised to win the ROH World Title purely for the sake of bringing it to a CZW show and throwing it in the trash.
HEARTBREAK EXPRESS vs. JAY LETHAL & DIXIE- 3.5/10
During this match there were two “interruptions in the feed.” I really hate this. Everyone knows that we are watching a DVD release, and that there never was a production truck or feed to lose or be hijacked. There was no “TV time” to be taken up, either. It was just dumb. Don’t pretend that you are something that everyone knows you aren’t.
RODERICK STRONG vs. AZRIEAL- 5.5/10
ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Jimmy Jacobs & BJ Whitmer(c) vs. Lacey’s Angels (Cheech & Deranged) (w/Lacey & Cloudy)- 6.25/10
We then got an announcement saying that Prince Nana had done something SO terrible and abusive to Jade Chung that they wouldn’t show it on DVD. So terrible and abusive that the Outcast Killaz immediately quit the embassy over it (they offered to take Jade with them, but she wanted to stay with the Embassy for the money). This sounds like it was a pretty important segment. As a fan… I WANT TO SEE IT! And the fact that they aren’t showing it to me because of this phony, fake “let’s pretend we’re on TV” BS is really pissing me off! ROH makes its own DVDs and can put whatever it wants to on them. Don’t give me this BS!
AJ STYLES vs. JIMMY RAVE (w/The Embassy)- 7/10
NIGEL MCGUINNESS vs. VORDELL WALKER- 3.75/10
This match was also had an “interrupted feed,” revealing that the person doing it is Matt Hardy, who will be coming to ROH to face Christopher Daniels. This is good news…. But they way they did it SUCKED! Just show it as a backstage pre-tape! Don’t do this “interrupted feed” BS, and especially not in the middle of a match!
FOUR CORNER SURVIVIAL: Samoa Joe vs. Austin Aries vs. James Gibson vs. Homicide (w/Julius Smokes)- 8/10. The finish did a great job of building to tomorrow night’s Pure Title match.
COLT CABANA vs. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS (w/Allison Danger)-6.5/10
GREAT post-match stuff between Punk & Daniels.
Next we got a segment that dragged on for WAY too long with Punk calling out ROH legends who weren’t in the country or in the company at the time (Low Ki, Danielson, and the Briscoes)… and each time the sound guy played their music… why? He should knows that they aren’t there.
Anyway, Mick Foley then came out and he and Punk took some WWE-related shots at each other, which, while funny (“we both know that there is only one way to be champion forever, and unfortunately for you, Gabe Sapolsky doesn’t have a daughter you can marry”), didn’t actually do anything for anyone.
ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: CM Punk(c) vs. Jay Lethal- 7.5/10
Overall, this show wasn't that good. Only one match worth going out of your way to see (Joe vs. Aries vs. Gibson vs. Homicide), and while it had some an awesome Punk promo, there was some logical stupidity on this show, too. Definitely skipable, unless you are a die-hard CM Punk fan, in which case it is a must-have.
