ROH International Challenge (12/22/2006)- Hartford, CT

DANIELS & SYDAL PROMOS- good. Once they finish cutting their promos and leave, Larry Sweeney walks up to the camera and says that everyone will have to wait to find out why he is here.

Before the action starts, Samoa Joe comes out to cut a short promo welcoming everyone to Ring of Honor in this new market. We also learn that Lenny Leonard is back on commentary after missing six months.

PELLE PRIMEAU vs. JASON BLADE- 4.5/10

AUSTIN ARIES vs. EDDIE EDWARDS- 5/10
Eddie only lasted about nine minutes, but he looked competitive against a former ROH World Champion. Aries wins the match after the Brainbuster and a possibly unnecessary 450 Splash… but it did a good job of popping the new market.

JIMMY JACOBS PROMO- awesome, as always.

DELIRIOUS vs. ADAM PEARCE (w/Shane Hagadorn)- 5.25/10
Those damn dirty heels! Hagadorn eating a Piledriver from Delirious after the match cheered me up, though.

JIMMY JACOBS & MERCEDES MARTINEZ vs. BJ WHITMER & DAIZEE HAZE- 5.25/10
Mercedes came out of this looking tough, but the match itself was mostly blah with one or two nice spots. After the match Brent Albright attacked Whitmer. Daizee Haze slaps Albright so Albright goes to powerbomb her, too, but Jimmy Jacobs convinces Albright to hold Daizee still so he can stab her in the face with his spike (I mean the railroad spike Jimmy keeps in his boot! Get your mind out of the gutter! Jimmy would never be unfaithful to Lacey!) Whitmer gets back up and winds up getting spiked instead of Daizee. Colt Cabana then comes out and takes it to both Jacobs and Albright, forcing them to retreat when he gets his hands on Jimmy’s spike (what did I tell you about keeping your mind out of the gutter!).

COLT CABANA vs. BRENT ALBRIGHT- 5.5/10
Good story in the beginning with Albright not knowing how to react to Cabana’s shenanigans, but the match started to drag towards the end. I’m also not sure what the purpose of putting Cabana over was.

THE KINGS OF WRESTLING vs. THE BRISCOE BROTHERS- 6.75/10
It was pretty clear they were holding back here, but this was still a very good match. The finish comes when Larry Sweeney interferes, allowing Hero to get a roll-up. Hero seemed to be expecting Sweeney, but Claudio clearly had no idea Sweeney would show up.

FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL MATCH: Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness vs. Jimmy Rave vs. Homicide (w/Julius Smokes)- 7/10
Some good storyline stuff going on here, with Dragon throwing Cide into the ringpost, injured shoulder first, and Joe coming out to check on Cide accidentally costing Nigel the match, escalating their burgeoning feud.

FIP HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Roderick Strong vs. Davey Richards- 7.25/10
We first got a video package of some FIP stuff to set this match up, and to inform us that Davey is the heel here. The match itself was great, but the count-out finish was disappointing.

ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Matt Sydal & Christopher Daniels(c) vs. CIMA & Shingo- 8/10
I have no idea why Allison Danger didn’t come out with Daniels. She was in the backstage segment earlier. The match itself was the action-packed affair you would expect it to be.

A good show from ROH, but entirely skippable if you don’t have the cash… and this is one of the hardest shows to find, so it will set you back a good bit (like, at least $100).
