NJPW G1 Climax 23 Day 8 (8/10/2013)- Tokyo, Japan

TAKASHI IIZUKA & YOSHI-HASHI vs. CAPTAIN NEW JAPAN & KUSHIDA- 4/10
They brawl. The heels cheat to win. The match was eh.

BLOCK A: Davey Boy Smith Jr. vs. Prince Devitt (Bad Luck Fale)-6.25/10
Lots of shenanigans by the heels. They really shined Smith here. Maybe they’re getting ready to give him a singles push.

BLOCK B: Karl Anderson vs. Yujiro Takahashi- 5.5/10

BLOCK A: Lance Archer vs. Satoshi Kojima- 6.75/10
Lance is huge, therefore Kojima must wear him down with quickness and hard strikes before trying to do anything that resembles a big move that might put Lance down. Good story.

BLOCK B: Toru Yano vs. Shelton Benjamin- 5.75/10
Wow. Yano’s entrance music sounds way too much like my ringtone. That will have to be changed. These two guys put on a short, fun heel vs. heel match.

BLOCK A: Togi Makabe vs. Tomohiro Ishii- 8/10
They botched a powerbomb early on and Ishii got dropped right on his head and neck. This was essentially a completely legit Ganso bomb. It looked scary as hell, but Ishii seemed to be all right. Anyway, this match was awesome. Two big, tough, dudes doing their best to knock each other down. If you like lariats, this match is for you.

BLOCK B: Minoru Suzuki vs. Kota Ibushi- 6.5/10
Ibushi just stopped selling his leg at one point, derailing what could have been a great match.

BLOCK B: Tetsuya Naito vs. Shinsuke Nakamura- 7/10
Lots of different ways to kick your opponent in the head. Good story and good action.

BLOCK A: Kazuchika Okada vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi- 9/10
It’s sh*t like this that makes the competition for Best Worker of the Year seem almost unfair. When these guys get in the ring together and just put on ridiculously awesome matches every single time… it almost hurts them because the match was only 9/10 and I’m disappointed. Great story, great selling by Okada, great everything.

Overall, a great show from New Japan.
