ROH Dethroned (11/25/2006)- Edison, NJ
PROMOS BY JULIUS SMOKES, HOMICIDE, & SAMOA JOE- Great. Especially Smokes… aside from him randomly shouting â€"Ballin’!†at the end.
EL GENERICO vs. BRENT ALBRIGHT- 3.25/10
Generico got a decent amount of offense in, but it still felt like a squash.
TOP OF THE CLASS TROPHY MATCH: Shane Hagadorn(c) vs. Bobby Dempsey- 2.25/10
Bobby jumps Hagadorn from behind as revenge for Hagadorn using brass knuckles to screw him out of the Top of the Class Trophy and embarrassing him last time ROH was in Edison (Fight of the Century). Hagadorn retains via beating a dirty cheater. Great segment. I really want to see someone kick Hagadorn’s ass right now. I can’t wait to get up to The Chicago Spectacular: Night 2 to see Hagadorn get destroyed by Homicide.
DELIRIOUS vs. JASON BLADE- 5/10
DAVEY RICHARDS PROMO- great
BJ WHITMER vs. JIMMY JACOBS (w/Lacey)- 7.25/10
Before the match Lacey tells Jimmy that she doesn’t care if he wins or not… she just wants BJ crippled. After some intense brawling, Jimmy breaks out the spike for the first time in this feud. Poor referee Paul Turner got spiked more than once for trying to break the viciousness up. They also took some brutal bumps on the outside, especially Jimmy. At one point both men just collapsed in exhaustion and Lacey still decided to berate Jimmy! Daizee Haze coming out and taking Lacey out got a great pop. There was no conclusive winner here, but they did so in a way that worked perfectly, as it seemed like neither man could possibly keep going, despite their best efforts.
TABLES AND CHAIRS ARE LEGAL MATCH FOR THE FIP HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: Roderick Strong(c) vs. Shingo- 6.75/10
ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Kings of Wrestling(c) vs. Matt Sydal & Christopher Daniels (w/Allison Danger)- 7.5/10
Danger is rocking her ultra-sexy cheerleader outfit for the third show in a row. I could get used to this! The match felt like it dragged a bit in the beginning, but was great once it got going a bit. The finish was utterly awesome! Hero and Claudio slink off dejectedly through the crowd while the fans give them a completely kayfabe â€"DON’T COME BACK!†chant. Classic stuff.
BRISCOES PROMO- bad. They were talking over each other so I couldn’t understand either one of them.
JIMMY RAVE vs. NIGEL MCGUINNESS- 6.75/10
A great match, but the finishing stretch felt very disjointed from the rest of the match. The beginning of the match had been about Nigel going after Rave’s arm and the finishing stretch was all about Nigel throwing a bunch of lariats.
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- Jimmy doesn’t want to shake hands but Nigel talks him into it, putting him over on the mic and saying that it will help transition him into the next stage of his career (a post-Embassy stage). Nigel, playful little bugger that he is, then jokingly throws some toilet paper at Jimmy. Rave, understandably, takes major offense at this and they have an EXCELLENT worked-shoot-ish confrontation (which was helped by the presence of Christopher Daniels coming out to try to break things up), resulting in Rave grabbing his luggage and walking out of the arena. TREMENDOUS segment!
AUSTIN ARIES vs. DAVEY RICHARDS- 6.5/10
Pretty disappointing, all things considered. They got the Kimura over pretty well, but Davey’s win really didn’t feel that big.z
LACEY PROMO- fantastic. She berates Jimmy some more and says that she doesn’t care that he is in the hospital. She says that she will need to get someone bigger, stronger, and smarter than Jimmy Jacobs to hurt Whitmer and Cabana the way she wants.
FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE ELIMINATION STREET FIGHT: The Briscoes vs. Samoa Joe & Homicide (w/Julius Smokes)- 6.5/10
Just a big brawl, but not really interesting in any way, aside from Cide burning one of the Briscoes with a cigar. I also really didn’t like both Briscoes being pinned at the same time without either Joe or Cide getting pinned. It seemed to be a waste of the elimination stip. After the match Joe and Cide have a little segment building up the possibility of the two of them facing each other for the ROH World Title at Final Battle.
Overall, an okay show from ROH. Pretty much everything is solid, but nothing is worth going out of your way to see. The tag title change, the Rave-McGuinness segment, and Lacey saying that she needs to bring another wrestler into Lacey’s Angels were the only things on this show that really mattered in any way on this show.
