ROH Domination (6/9/2007)- Philadelphia, PA
MATT SYDAL vs. HALLOWICKED- 6.5/10
During this match, Lenny Leonard and Dave Prazak inform us that now that ROH is on PPV, it is signing its talents to contracts, but Matt Sydal has not yet signed a contract, and thus is â€"the top free agent in wrestling.â€
Hallowicked has a good showing, but Sydal picks up yet another win against a masked wrestler.
DAIZEE HAZE vs. LACEY (w/Jimmy Jacobs)- 5/10
Before the match Lacey cut a promo saying that she knows that Daizee is all about peace and love, so she hopes that Daizee will oblige her request for a straight up wrestling match instead of the brawls they have been having for the past seven months. Lacey says that she has started a new chapter in her life because she, too, has now found love.
Surprisingly enough, Lacey does live up to her word… for a few minutes anyway. Once Daizee really starts to out-wrestle her, Lacey rolls to the outside. Once on the outside, she slams Lacey’s back into the ringpost, chokes her, and even tries to hit her with Jimmy’s cane.
ERICK STEVENS PROMO- okay
KEVIN STEEN & EL GENERICO vs. MIKE QUACKENBUSH & JIGSAW- 7.25/10
Generico is wearing his blue and white tights and mask tonight instead of the normal red and black, which I hate, because it always makes me think there is something wrong with my TV.
Close to fifteen minutes of great tag team action. During the post-match handshake, Steen tossed Jigsaw around, which obviously infuriated Quack. While the referee and Generico are keeping them separated, Steen turns to the camera and says â€"What? I shook his hand. He just didn’t let go in time.†Steen is an awesome heel.
IRISH AIRBORNE PROMO- they say that everyone wants to be in ROH and they want one more shot to show everyone what they are made of. Based on the ridiculous lack of charisma they showed in this promo, I’m surprised they were even given this chance.
MATT CROSS vs. DAVEY RICHARDS- 6.5/10
A good match, but the finish didn’t mesh quite so well with the rest of the match. Davey spent all match working over M-Dogg’s midsection, but then gets the submission victory with the Kimura?
The No Remorse Corps come out for a post-match beatdown, but Erick Stevens and Delirious come out and makes the save, transitioning into…
DELIRIOUS vs. ROCKY ROMERO- 5.75/10
They brawled all through the crowd and used weapons and such with no DQ at all, then they got back in the ring and did some stuff before going into a great finishing sequence.
Good heat after the match, too, until Stevens and Cross come out to make the save.
LARRY SWEENEY PROMO- pointless.
He says that Sweet N’ Sour Inc. will make more money now because is on pay-per-view. We already new this.
FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL MATCH: BJ Whitmer vs. Brent Albright vs. Jimmy Rave vs. Erick Stevens- 6.25/10
BJ is very unhappy with referee Paul Turner (who DQed him last night for headbutting him) even before the match starts, yelling at Turner while he tries to check him for foreign objects. The finish saw Whitmer get angry with Turner for telling him he wasn’t the legal man when he tried to go for a pin. Whitmer shoved Turner and went to punch him but Brent Albright grabbed Whitmer’s arm and pulled him down for the Crowbar. Whitmer rolled through the Crowbar and went for a lariat but Albright ducked it, hit BJ with the half-nelson suplex and got the pin.
2 OUT OF 3 FALLS MATCH FOR THE ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES: The Briscoe Brothers(c) vs. Claudio Castagnoli & Chris Hero(c) (w/Sweet N’ Sour Inc.)- 6.75/10
Claudio and Sweeney yelled at each other a bit during the entrance, but Chris Hero played the peacemaker.
Hero and Claudio worked together very well and there were no further issues between Claudio and Sweeney. The first fall was very quick and disappointing, but things got better after that, with some good nearfalls worked in as well.
DAIZEE HAZE PROMO- she says the Women of Honor are the best female wrestlers in the world… certainly much better than those you see on TV, and ROH being on pay-per-view means that they will be able to prove that to a wider audience. Lacey jumped Daizee from behind, then celebrated with an unnamed brunette (I’m pretty sure it was Rain).
ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Takeshi Morishima(c) vs. Roderick Strong- 6.75/10
Disappointing. The crowd was into it, but no one ever bought the possibility that Roddy would win.
A very disappointing show from ROH. Everything was just so mediocre. Definitely one to avoid. The only thing close to significant was Lacey saying that she had found love, but we knew that already anyway.
BONUS MATCHES:
FIP HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH (from 5/27/2006): Bryan Danielson(c) (w/Dave Prazak & Mr. Milo Beasley) vs. Jay Lethal- 6.75/10
Prazak and Lenny recorded new commentary for this match… so we had Dave Prazak calling his own actions on the outside, which was funny. The real reason for the re-recorded commentary was so they could shill FIP as hard as possible (in fact, this whole weekend for ROH was, unofficially, â€"Shill FIP Weekend.†Last night’s show, A Fight at the Roxbury, featured a videowire that almost entirely took place in FIP and Roddy wore his FIP shirt at every opportunity). To do this, they talked about all of the different styles in FIP and the great feuds in FIP, including the Briscoes vs. Necro Butcher & Mad Man Pondo feud that Gabe loves to plug so much any time someone brings up FIP.
They also told us about all of the great talent in FIP (especially the guys who already have names in ROH and elsewhere) and that wrestling in FIP will put you on everyone’s map, especially Ring of Honor.
Milo Beasley went for a senton off of the apron but completely missed and landed on his back on the floor, which looked like it hurt like a motherf*cker.
The match itself was a very slow, southern-style match with lots of crowd gaga.
FOUR WAY FRAY FOR THE ROH TOP OF THE CLASS TROPHY: Pelle Primeau(c) vs. Rhett Titus vs. â€"Sugarfoot†Alex Payne vs. Mitch Franklin- 5/10
Rhett was billed as â€"the sexiest man alive.†Not quite what would make him famous, but he’s getting there. Pelle Primeau went for a springboard senton to the outside but the back of his head smashed on the apron. He just shook it off and kept on wrestling, but I’m pretty sure this was the first in a series of concussions that would end his career. Soon after that he got hit in the head my Mitch Franklin doing a suicide dive and I think his head might have hit the guardrail there, too.
Anyway, this was a very good match by the students. Especially Pelle and Mitch.
