WWE Survivor Series 2002 (11/17/2002)- New York, NY
ELIMINATION 6 MAN TAG TEAM TABLES MATCH: 3 Minute Warning vs. Bubba Ray Dudley, Spike Dudley, & Jeff Hardy- 7/10
PERFECT for an opener. This had some awesome bumps and some great psychology in it. Comparing the way that Jeff and Spike sold to the way that Rosey and Jamal sold really helped Rosey and Jamal come across as monsters, so props to all four guys for that. I really loved the spot, about a minute in, where Rosey was going to spear Spike through a table, but Spike moved, so Rosey went through the table set up in the corner... then just turned around a completely no-sold it. It was absolutely awesome. Great booking on the finish, as getting back up after their respective eliminating bumps made Rosey and Jamal look tough, and the Dudleys' reunion at the end got a HUGE pop.
WWE CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Jamie Noble(c) (w/Nidia) vs. Billy Kidman- 6/10.
Just plain great wrestling.
ANGLE & BENOIT BACKSTAGE- goofy
VICTORIA BACKSTAGE- she plays an excellent psycho.
HARDCORE MATCH FOR THE WWE WOMEN'S TITLE: Trish Stratus(c) vs. Victoria- 5.5/10.
Good match, but the Snap Suplex as a finish after they had been smacking each other with weapons the whole time felt very anti-climactic.
ERIC BISCHOFF PROMO & SEGMENT WITH THE BIG SHOW- Good.
PAUL HEYMAN & BROCK LESNAR BACKSTAGE- GREAT! Paul E. is f*cking weasel!
WWE TITLE MATCH: Brock Lesnar(c) (w/Paul Heyman) vs. The Big Show-4.75/10
Showing Big Show & Heyman jumping into a waiting car and leaving the arena was a great touch.
TRIPLE THREAT ELIMINATION MATCH FOR THE WWE TAG TEAM TITLES: Rey Mysterio & Edge(c) vs. Los Guerreros vs. Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit- 7.5/10
CHRIS NOWITZKI & MATT HARDY INSULT NEW YORK- Good segment. Great way to debut Scott Steiner as a babyface.
TRIPLE H PROMO- okay
ELIMINATION CHAMBER MATCH FOR THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE: Triple H(c) vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Chris Jericho vs. Booker T vs. Kane- a PERFECT 10/10
PERFECT! Just perfect. I really loved how they had RVD just plain take it to Triple H in the beginning and just beat the crap out of him using the chamber as a weapon and busting him open. It really gave you a better sense of what we were dealing with here, and did a great job of saying "See. This thing really is as dangerous as we have been claiming." The match had some truly sick spots, and things that no one expected. Amazing nearfalls towards the end with Shawn and Triple H, too. Add in a hot MSG crowd with people wanting to see all four of the babyfaces get their hands on Triple H, plus the debut of a new, brutal match with the World Heavyweight Title on the line, and you have a perfect match. WWE had built this up to the point where everyone's expectations were super-high… and these six men cleared the bar by about 20 feet.
Overall, this show was AWESOME, and was capped off by a perfect main event. Go buy it!
