Going into the PPV: My thoughts

In my opinion, Summer 2006 till the beginning of 2007 heralded some of the most dynamic TV of that decade in wrestling. Particularly, there was a crapton of talent, whether it was new faces in the title pictures, (King Booker, Rey Mysterio) the young, emerging undercard (Lashley, MVP, Kennedy) or, the rebirth of ECW, it was one of those periods where I was glued to the TV. So, in order to pay homage to the era, I've decided to break from my review schedule and review Armageddon 2006. This PPV is mostly known for the 4 Way Ladder Match for the tag titles. However, upon reading the WWE Network Synopsis, the rest of the card looks like some gimmicky BS, (A Last Ride Match between Kennedy and Taker, an Inferno match between MVP and Kane) but I vaguely remember enjoying both, so let's get this done.

According to the WWE Network event spacing, it seems that everything gets an insane amount of time. The Cena/Batista vs Booker Finlay match gets 3rd billing from afformentioned gimmicky stuff. Micheal Cole immediately starts spouting bulls**t, calling the PPV a "Smackdown exclusive" Yeah Cole, with Raw's champion and two of Raw's top tag teams.

MVP vs Kane Inferno Match

-Why are we opening with this? It's one of the Main Events of tonight, certainly you have some undercard stuff for us Smackdown.
-Props to JBL for citing the absurdity of the Inferno Match
-According to the video package they play, Teddy Long sicks Kane on MVP in a Street Fight and in a cage match. It seems that Teddy just has an irrational hatred of MVP, maybe he's bitter about MVP's huge contract?
-Props again to JBL for citing Teddy Long's bullshittery.
-MVP hits all of 4 mov es on Kane and Kane does his situp thing. At least the crowd is huge on Kane right now
-Although, I gotta say, Kane trying to hit MVP with a flaming turnbuckle pad is pretty awesome
-MVP almost missing a sliding dropkick and getting burned was awesome.
-This actually goes outside the ring, which I wasn't expecting
- A lot of creative false finishes outside the ring.
-MVP has no concept of "Stop, drop, and roll"
-JBL sells that they could've just ended MVP's career, I got a smile out of JBL calling Long a "Peanut Head
4.5/10 This match actually exceeds explinations and should be

And while MVP could be dead, Teddy Long parties with Divas at a Christmas Party. There will be a lingerie match

Londrick and the Blue Bloods come out to wrestle what they believe will be a 2 on 2 regular tag match, Teddy Long and comes out and announces.....

The Hardyz vs MNM vs The Blue Bloods vs Londrick

-The Hardyz do the smart thing and bring a ladder to the ring during their entrance
-MNM also do it, but they're getting intercapted.
-Regal and Taylor kick the ladders out of the ring. A ladder match with Psychology? Pinch me, I'm dreaming.
-Poetry in Motion followed by Snapshot!
-Brian Kendrick gets a ladder thrown at him while running and it sounds sick
-Paul London jumps off a ladder before Mercury can knock it down
- Man, I love "Falling off a ladder and falling out of the ring "spots
-Jesus, Jeff Poetry in Motions into a ladder
-At one point, JBL says, "This match is so violent, Mercury giving Regal a suplex on the floor doesn't stand out" JBL is ON FIRE at the commentary desk tonight
-London's dropsault is so pretty
- DOUBLE STOMP ON A LADDER!
-Hey look, it's the spot that almost killed Joey Mercury!
-The look on Matt's face as he realized he just destroyed Joey Mercury on accident was great, really sold the moment.
-Regal and Taylor essentially doing their normal movesets on ladders is pretty awesome
-Only William Regal could sell being afraid of heights
-Lesus, Jeff just wrecked his throat by having the ladder kicked onto his head
- Nitro pays tribute HBK's WM10 ladder spot.
-And Kendrick about kills himself on a Ladder Sliced Bread
- I feel like every ladder spot except three or so has to do with the teams going for the title
-This is how a ladder match is done
10/10 perfect

They pan to Krystal showing off her lingerie, but she looks too much like Oprah's friend Gail King for me to find her hot.

The Miz comes out and there are Miz fans why?
Oh crap

The Miz vs The Boogeyman

I've gotta say, if I was in the ring, and I saw the Boogeyman coming, I'd be terrified
-Say what you will about the Boogeyman but I love the character
- Miz is working the arm for some reason
-Boogey feeds Miz worms from his own mouth, oh my God.
3/10

Jillian flashes Layla her lingere and Layla looks way too excited not to be a lesbian
Chavo and Vickie are backstage. Chavo wants to win it for Vickie.Vickie is pissed that Benoit caused her neck injiury. Vickie steals the show.
JBL makes an uncomfotable comment "Chris took an intentional shot at Vickie and I learned something about him I didn't want to know."

Chavo Guerrero vs Chris Benoit for the US Title

-Contrary to what JBL says "Guerrero" is not Spanish for "warrior" this was disappointing to learn in college Spanish
-Chavo works over the arms and hips
- Chris Benoit teasing putting Vickie in the Sharpshooter was super uncomfortable
-Chavo being able to capitalize on that makes him look like a loser.
6.5/10

Gregory Helms vs Jimmy Wang Yang for the Crusierweight Championship

-Jimmy Yang has some beautiful offense
-Babyface comeback by Yang
-JBL being a racist asshole is getting old
-DAMN off the top rope swinging neckbreaker
-I wish more commentators ripped the crowd for chanting boring like JBL did here.
-Gregory Helms somehow cut his mouth.
6.5/10

Okay so, the video package for this Kennedy/Undertaker match NEEDS to be looked up. They did some of the most creative stunt stuff I've seen from WWE, aside from Taker's feud with Orton.

Mr.Kennedy vs Undertker, Last Ride match

-Mr.Kennedy always did a good job at selling intensity/concentration
-JBL does a great job of selling this match, as well as Taker in general
-Kennedy's cat and mouse game at the beginning is awesome
-This was a completely boring match until KENNEDY THREW UNDERTAKER OFF THE GODDAMN STAGE.
-Undertaker sitting up in the hearse was awesome
-Taker beats the s**t out of Kennedy in the comeback and wins
7.5/10, one of Undertaker's best gimmick matches.

Booker T and Finlay sort things out before their take match
Santa comes out to host the lingerie contest

I resind the Gail King comments about Kristal
As is customary for 2006, Santa is big dick Johnson.

John Cena and Batista vs King Booker and Finlay

-Can I say, Sharmell is the best obnoxious heel valet of our time, constantly shouting "All Hail King Bookah!" and it just added amazingness to is heel run
-JBL S**ting on Cena being on an SD PPV is great, as is Batista getting the last entrance
-Great selling of fear by Booker when it comes to Batisa
-Hornswoggle kicks himself in the head
-Scepter shot to the throat!
-Babyface comeback
5.5/10

Final thoughts

This was actually a great PPV, even the stuff that I predicted in the beginning would be crap actually turned out to be somewhat redeemable or fun. I would def look up this PPV,
