ROH Summer Heat Tour: Cincinnati (7/18/2014)- Cincinnati, OH

OPENING SEGMENT-
Nigel McGuinness comes out. He isn’t bald anymore, and is growing a beard. He looks SO un-Nigel. He is introduced by the ring announcer, Scarlett Bordeaux, who has gone back to her light red hair at the top, blonde hair at the end look.
Nigel hypes up tonight’s main event for the ROH World Title between Michael Elgin & Roderick Strong. He then announces that Michael Bennett won’t be wrestling tonight so he has food poisoning, so they are trying to find a new partner for Cole. He also announces that because Alex Koslov got injured in Japan, reDRagon will now be defending the ROH World Tag Team Titles against Rocky Romero & Tommaso Ciampa. Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly come out to say that they’re not afraid of anyone- even Ciampa. Ciampa and Rocky then come out, and we start off with an…

ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: reDRagon(c) vs. Rocky Romero & Tommaso Ciampa- 6.75/10
Very good match. reDRagon did a great job of isolating each opponent. Ciampa takes the loss, and the announcers point out that this is the third time in just a few weeks that Ciampa has lost a match with title implications (tonight, the match for a TV Title shot at Best in the World 2014, and the ROH World Title match at Road to Best in the World: Night 2, which everyone should check out if they haven’t seen yet because it was awesome). Ciampa taking the loss also keeps the reDRagon vs. Forever Hooligans rematch open for when Alex Koslov heals up.
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- Ciampa yells at Rocky and shoves him. Rocky starts throwing punches, and they had a brawl that was quickly broken up.

ROH TV TITLE MATCH: Jay Lethal(c) (w/Truth Martini) vs. The Romantic Touch- 6.75/10
Lethal thought that Matt Taven was under the Romantic Touch mask tonight and tried to prove it by unmasking him. He wasn’t. We didn’t get a good look at Touch’s face, but it definitely looked like Rhett Titus.

ACH, CAPRICE COLEMAN, & CEDRIC ALEXANDER vs. THE DECADE (BJ Whitmer, Jimmy Jacob, & Adam Page) (w/Tadarius Thomas)- 5.75/10
This match was originally supposed to feature Thomas instead of Jacobs, but Jimmy replaced TD as punishment for TD not seizing the opportunity Jacobs gave him when he gave him his spot in Four Corner Survival match last weekend at Aftershock.

NO DISQUALIFICATIONS MATCH: Kevin Steen vs. Silas Young- 7.75/10
Lots of weapon-shots but I was hoping for more, both because this was one of Steen’s last ROH matches and because this was Silas’ biggest win in ROH, and would have been a great spot for him to really show us what he can do.

FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL MATCH: Ethan Gabriel Owens vs. Moose vs. Matt Taven vs. R.D. Evans (w/Veda Scott & Ramon)- 4.25/10
They did some eh comedy and they did some very choreographed-looking tower of doom-type spots. Taven had the match won, but Truth Martini pulled the ref out of the ring. Truth called Taven a loser, so Taven chased him off. Moose seems afraid to hit people too hard, so his offense looks very soft.

MARIA KANELLIS PROMO- she first “prays” to Matt Hardy and the Iconic Title (I thought we were done with this religious imagery gimmick now that Matt isn’t even in the company anymore!), then she announces that she made a deal with Truth Martini so that Jay Lethal will fill in for Michael Bennett as Adam Cole’s tag team partner tonight. Then the Briscoes came out, so Maria ran away.

THE BRISCOES vs. WAR MACHINE- 6.75/10
The match was going well until Lethal and Cole attacked both teams for the double DQ. Could they not have let them go to a draw first, and THEN had Cole and Lethal attack while they are asking for five more minutes? That way we still would have gotten the heel attack robbing us of determining a winner, but we also would have gotten a real finish, too.
Anyway, Cole and Lethal beat them down until Daniels and Kazarian made the save, and they transitioned into…

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS & FRANKIE KAZARIAN vs. ADAM COLE & JAY LETHAL (w/Truth Martini & eventually Maria Kanellis)- 7.25/10
After the match there was a staredown between the Briscoes, War Machine, and Kaz & Daniels.

ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Michael Elgin(c) vs. Roderick Strong- 8.5/10
Awesome! Roddy worked over Elgin’s back the whole match, but couldn’t keep the champion down.

A GREAT show from ROH! Elgin already has his first awesome title defense in just his second defense.
