WWE Night of Champions 2014 (9/21/2014)- Nashville, TN
WWE TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: The Usos(c) vs. Goldust & Stardust- 6.25/10
Good opener, and hopefully this means that we’ll move on in this stupid â€"cosmic key†storyline.
DOLPH ZIGGLER (& R-ZIGGLER) PROMO- decent
WWE UNITED STATES TITLE MATCH: Sheamus(c) vs. Cesaro- 7.25/10
ALPAMARE WATERSLIDE!
This was a great brawl. The only thing I didn’t like was the finish. It felt a little but like the ref cost Cesaro the match.
MARK HENRY & BIG SHOW BACKSTAGE- okay. He’s representing the USA. WE GET IT! You need to waste time on the PPV with this!
WWE INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH: Dolph Ziggler(c) (w/R-Ziggler) vs. The Miz (w/Damien Miz-dow)- 5.5/10
Truth and Ziggler were not even close to being synchronized here. I couldn’t tell if that was a botch, or if that was supposed to be part of the joke.
As if there wasn’t enough going on at ringside in this match, they also had Florida-Georgia Line on commentary, and the whole time these guy were walking down the ramp, the only thing I could think about was how much these guys looked like completely uncharismatic versions of Chris Jericho and Heath Slater. Of course, the reason they were out here was so they could get into a fight with Sandow. It didn’t even wind mattering in the end because Sandow came back and distracted Ziggler, allowing Miz to roll him up and win the title back.
ROLLINS STUFF- Rollins is a good heel. Ambrose comes back. They brawl.
MARK HENRY vs. RUSEV (w/Lana)- 3.5/10
I know this is a nitpick, but singing the national anthem here instead of at the beginning of the show (as is traditional for… well… everything) felt exploitative.
Short.
RANDY ORTON vs. CHRIS JERICHO- 7/10
Orton works over Jericho’s back. I liked the way the announcers built up the punt from 2010 in order to build up the spot for the match, only to have it be a red herring.
BRIE BELLA PROMO- a bad promo, and just a terrible idea. They might as well have just written â€"BRIE WILL INTERFERE IN THIS MATCH†on the screen in big letter. Actually, I kind of wish that they did do that so that we wouldn’t have had to suffer through this crappy promo.
WWE DIVAS TITLE MATCH: Paige(c) vs. AJ Lee vs. Nikki Bella- 4/10
Huh. I guess I was wrong.
I LOVED the finish, but I absolutely HATE the way they keep switching the title, and for no reason, too.
WWE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Brock Lesnar(c) (w/Paul Heyman) vs. John Cena- 7.25/10
Well… that was disappointing. They were having a very good match, but then Rollins interfered, breaking up a pin. Why? How does it benefit Seth Rollins in any way to break this pin up? If he wants to cash in, it would actually better for him to wait until the match reached a real finish, because whoever the winner was would be even more exhausted.
Anyway, Rollins tries to cash in his Money in the Bank contract, but the match never gets started because Cena attacks him. Cena runs Rollins off, then Brock gives Cena an F-5 just because. It looks like they are building to Cena vs. Lesnar in Hell in a Cell, but it really doesn’t make sense to have Cena start a feud with Rollins right when Ambrose has just come back to do that very same thing. I assume decided to do Cena vs. Lesnar again because they don’t think they have anyone else ready to face Brock at Hell in a Cell… and that’s their own damn fault for not planning ahead. Even a loss to Brock would have made Cesaro a star, but they killed all hope of that by randomly killing his push and taking Heyman away from him.
Anyway this was an okay show from WWE, but the extremely disappointing ending really hurts it.
