Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned wrestling legend King Kong Bundy passed away this afternoon.

Bundy’s longtime friend David Herro made the announcement on Facebook writing, “Today we lost a Legend and a man I consider family. Rest in Peace Chris. We love you. Thank you for believing in me.”

Herro tells us he confirmed Bundy’s passing with the wrestler’s family, who asked him to make a post on Facebook letting people know.

Bundy most famously wrestled in the main event of WrestleMania 2 against Hulk Hogan.

No word at this time on the wrestler’s cause of death.

He was 61-years-old.

That really sucks. Maybe it's the only way he gets into the HOF...

The definition of less is more. No intricate story lines, no politics... Bundy was "that guy" we all know... a cocky, loud, fat slob that you just wanted somebody to shut up. Send him out, have him run down a town, run down a crowd, run down a babyface and the man was a furnace. For a feud or just a night's entertainment, the man could get you excited to see him get beat... but was big enough and loud enough that it'd cast just enough doubt to make anyone an underdog.

For me, he embodied the simplicity that made wrestling so great. The innocence I associate with childhood. Good Guys vs Bad Guys. He never had an agenda, nothing was ever personal, 6'6"... 450lbs... ANY TIME ANY PLACE IF YOU NEED REMINDED OF WHAT THAT MEANS... WHEN IT HITS YOU IN THE CORNER AT FULL SPEED IT'S CALLED AN AVALANCHE AND IT MEANS A FIVE COUNT!

Did the man define 80's wrestling? Absolutely not, but he'd admit that. But he absolutely helped fill out a cast of colorful characters and managed to stand out during a time when everyone was larger than life, everyone was trying to out-shout the other, and he did it with a simple black singlet and a bald head.

Never a full on babyface, but he's one of the first true "tweeners" I remember seeing. He might be with the babyfaces one week, but always made it clear that he was gonna do what he was gonna do.

A fun clip from early JCW. Of all places, this is the show that I "noticed" Bundy in my adult years. I can't find the clip of him cutting a heel promo on the fans, but it was 80's kayabe at it's best during a time when breaking kayfabe was the cool thing to do... and it worked.

This one just shows you what a fun guy he is, and I'm fascinated by the end of it where he turns the character on and off like a switch.

YAK YAK YAK... RIP KKB. Truly appreciate what you gave us.
