BRM Reviews wXw We Love Wrestling #5 (3/19/2021)

Post by Big Red Machine » Apr 26th, '21, 23:58

WHO WILL BE THE #1 CONTENDER TO THE wXw UNIFIED WORLD WRESTLING TITLE- good
The CEO came out and Andy Jackson brought out the three possibilities: Marius Al-Ani, Avalanche, and Tristan Archer. Th CEO put them all over, but announced that Marius would be the #1 contender. The others left, and Marius cut an awesome promo.

THE OTHER INTERVIEWER INTERVIEWS TRISTAN ARCHER & AVALANCHE- fine
Both acknowledged that Marius deserved the title shot, even if he is a jerk. They also put each other over. Good professional babyface stuff.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS MICHAEL KNIGHT- meh
Knight has a neck tattoo that might be worse than Cody’s. He’s a veteran returning to wXw after a long time away.

MICHAEL KNIGHT vs. PETER TIHANYI- 4.5/10
Tihanyi’s knee got worked over and he had t ap out. Despite him losing, it felt to me like all of the focus was on Tihanyi, as if the idea of this match was to show us that he could sell rather than to make Knight look good with this win.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS THE ARROWS OF HUNGARY- fine

wXw WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND MATCH: Aigle Blanc & Senza Volto vs. Arrows of Hungary- 6.5/10
Aigle Blanc’s back got worked over. The usual hot tag and comeback happened. Aigle Blanc eventually gt a roll-up for the win, and the announcers pushed it as a huge upset, which it certainly is because the Arrows are an established team and Aigle Blanc and Senza Volto aren’t.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS AIGLE BLANC & SENZA VOLTO- They are happy, and when Frenchmen are happy, they apparently sing their national anthem.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS BOBBY GUNNS- good
Andy asks Bobby about Marius Al-Ani being named the #1 contender. Bobby cut a good promo putting Al-Ani over but also claiming that Al-Ani found success by copying him. Andy also asked about Bobby’s opponent tonight: Dennis Zinner. Bobby called him a “Tik Tok clown.”

BOBBY GUNNS vs. DENNIS ZINNER- 2/10
Zinner was allowed to get some offense in, but this was pretty close to a squash… and that’s really what it should be when the world champion is facing a nobody. Bobby cut a good little promo after the match in his post-match interview with Andy.

DAS HIMMELSCHLOSS WITH SPECIAL GUEST MARIUS AL-ANI- very funny
Marius was unaware that this was happening. Apparently Levaniel filled out the form backstage for them to enter the tag tournament together (including taking Marius’ insurance cards out of his bag so he could fill out forms with them) so they’re now officially in it. Levaniel was hilarious here. Marius insisted that tag team wrestling was behind him and that he was focusing on the world title now, but he finally gave in because they’ve already been booked.

ANDY JACKSON ASKS PEOPLE TO SUPPORT wXw BY BUYING “GHOST TICKETS”- That’s not a good sign.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS LEON VAN GASTEREN- good
Andy asks Leon about his former pupil, Marius Al-Ani, who beat him two weeks ago. Leon puts over Marius’ ability, but warns that his arrogance will be his downfall. He is then asked about his match against Johnny Evers tonight. He said that he is focused on winning.

LEON VAN GASTEREN vs. JOHNNY EVERS- 5.5/10
Leon won clean in seven minutes

NADY JACKSON INTERVIEWS ROTT & FLOTT- good
They have a chip on their shoulder from not being used by wXw for a long time. They also made some comments to push the dissension on Team wXw Academy issue, they were supposed to face Marik and Heisenberg, but now they’re facing Marik and Avalanche instead.

wXw WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT FIRST ROUND MATCH: Rott & Flott vs. wXw Wrestling Academy (Anil Marik & “The Avalanche” Robert Dreissker)- 7/10
Coach Dreissker is filling in for Vincent Heisenberg, who was supposed to be part of this team but decided he didn’t want to be after some miscommunications with Anil Marik in last week’s loss.
Anil was the babyface in peril here and was very good. They built up to and paid off Dreissker getting his hands on one of the heels (Nikita, I think), who had been annoying him the whole match, which set up the finish. Avalanche cut a fine promo for the team in the post-match interview.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS FAST TIME MOODO- fine
They hit the important point that Moodo needs to be able to keep himself focused if he wants to win.

wXw SHOTGUN TITLE MATCH: Norman Harras(c) vs. Fast Time Moodo- 7/10
This was a REALLY great match for the time it got. Said time, unfortunately, was only about seven and a half minutes, as it had to be stopped when Moodo crashed side-first into an exposed turnbuckle pad and began having trouble breathing. I assume this is a work (especially because it aired, though I don’t think wXw would necessarily cut a match due to an injury if it still got them the result they wanted), but it was abrupt enough that I’m not totally sure.

ANDY JACKSON INTERVIEWS NORMAN HARRAS- very good
Norman is a great heel. Andy Jackson said that luck played a factor in Norman’s victory tonight and Norman denied it. Next week’s challenger will be someone named “Cash Crash.” Maybe this lottery system isn’t the best idea.

Another decent-to-good episode of We Love Wrestling. The tag title tournament continues next week. Marius and Levaniel’s match against Ezel should be quite fun.
