Andrade El Idolo was originally scheduled to win the AAA Mega Championship from Kenny Omega at Triplemania, but AEW asked the promotion to hold off, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Meltzer said that AEW has control over Omega's finishes in other promotions and asked AAA to not have him lose Saturday in Mexico City. Meltzer speculated it was because the AEW World Champion lost the Impact World title to Christian Cage on AEW Rampage Friday night and didn't want Omega to lose two nights in a row.

Omega's next scheduled title defense will be at All Out when he faces Cage once again. It's unknown when he will next defend the AAA title and if it will be against his fellow AEW roster mate once again.

Omega retained the AAA title over El Idolo Saturday in a match that saw Ric Flair make a surprise appearance to be in El Idolo's corner. Omega was setting up to hit El Idolo with a chair shot but Flair intervened. Konnan (in Omega's corner) also got involved and after a chaotic scene that saw Flair put Konnan in a figure four, Omega eventually hit El Idolo with the title belt and after hitting the One Winged Angel, he pinned El Idolo to retain.

Unless they have a specific reason for needing him to have the AAA belt, this actually feels like a big mistake to be, as it would build on Christian's promo about losing the Impact title getting in Omega's head.
