WWE NXT viewership down, demo rating up against big NBA game

Tuesday night's edition of NXT averaged 561,000 viewers on the USA Network, down 4.9 percent from last week. It's the lowest viewership for the show on USA Network since moving to Tuesday nights and the fourth lowest overall in NXT's history.

In the 18-49 demo, NXT drew a 0.14 rating, which was up 27.3 percent from last week. The show finished 36th on the cable charts in the demo.

The main competition was an NBA game between the Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden where Steph Curry broke the all-time record for most three-pointers in a career. That game averaged 2.35 million viewers on TNT, running head-to-head with NXT.

NXT was actually up in almost all major demo categories, but it fell in the show's strongest category (people over 50). The show was down 8.6 percent in that demo, which was the entire reason for the overall audience decline.

Last week's NBA game in the same time slot averaged 1.3 million viewers. In people over 50, the NBA rose from a 0.53 rating last week to a 0.99 this week, so it's easy to see why NXT was down.

As compared to this same week in 2020, when NXT was running head-to-head with AEW Dynamite on Wednesdays, the show was down 26.8 percent in overall viewers and down 26.3 percent in 18-49.
