BRM Reviews WWF Wrestlemania 2000
WWF Wrestlemania 2000 (4/2/2000)- Anaheim, CA
THE BIG BOSSMAN & BULL BUCHANAN vs. D’LO BROWN & THE GODFATHER- 3/10. Boring, but competently performed.
BATTLE ROYALE FOR THE WWF HARDCORE TITLE: DUD! Just a bunch of people hitting each other with crap for 15 minutes. There some parts where it came close to having a story, but it still deserves a big fat DUD!
HEAD CHEESE (w/Chester McCheeserton) vs. TEST & ALBERT (w/Trish Stratus)- 4/10
TRIANGLE LADDER MATCH FOR THE WWF WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES: The Dudley Boyz(c) vs. The Hardy Boys vs. Edge & Christian- 8.5/10. Definitely the highlight of the night. By a mile.
CATFIGHT WITH VAL VENIS AS SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE: The Kat (w/Mae Young) vs. Terri (w/The Fabulous Moolah)- no rating. Okay comedy match, and Moolah and Terri cheating actually did get some heat from me. Apparently you win this match by throwing your opponent to the floor.
THE RADICALZ (Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko, & Perry Saturn) vs. Chyna & Too Cool- 5.75/10. Chyna going low on Saturn and Malenko made no sense. She makes up for that, though, by doing what seems to be a bodyslam version of the Ball-Plex to Eddie. Everyone played their roles well.
TWO OUT OF THREE FALLS MATCH IN WHICH THE INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE IS ON THE LINE IN THE FIRST FALL AND THE EUROPEAN TITLE IS ON THE LINE IN THE SECOND FALL: Kurt Angle(c)(c) vs. Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho- 7/10. Good booking.
RIKISHI & KANE (w/Paul Bearer) vs. ROAD DOGG & X-PAC (w/Tori)- 3.5/10. Very disappointing.
POST-MATCH SHENANIGANS- fun
FOUR WAY ELIMINATION MATCH FOR THE WWF TITLE IN WHICH ELIMINATIONS CAN ONLY BE RECORDED BY PINFALL: Triple H(c) (w/Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley) vs. The Rock (w/Vince McMahon) vs. The Big Show (w/Shane McMahon) vs. Mick Foley (w/Linda McMahon)- 7.75/10. Pretty disappointing, considering everything involved. The first mistake here was with The Big Show being eliminated less than five minutes in. It made it seem like he didn’t belong in the main event at Mania. I also thought that the whole thing with Foley breaking up people’s pins made no sense. Once this match narrowed down to Triple H vs. The Rock, it got awesome though. I thought the finish didn’t work so well because the did the same spot twice in a row (Rocky kicked out the first time, then stayed down the second. With a spot like that, where you have someone turning with a chair shot, that should either be the finish, or not be similar to the finish (it can be part of the finishing sequence, but it loses its shock the second time you do that spot). I thought the stuff they did with the McMahons worked very well, though, and Steph’s facials really helped make that work.
AFTERMATH- great at first… then bad. The stuff with the McMahon’s was good, but The Rock should not have been standing tall at the end of the night. I would have had The Rock take Shane out, then start punching away at Vince, but not hit him with a finisher. I would have had Steph get in his face and slap him, and have The Rock go for the Rock Bottom on her, but have Triple H make the save. Then Vince and Hunter have a staredown, ending in a handshake. It think this would have done a great job at symbolizing the mutual acceptance between Triple H and Vince. This would have made it more than Vince just putting up with Triple H for Steph’s sake. This would have opened the door to the actual, respectful relationship that would soon develop between Triple H and Vince.
Overall, a very disappointing Wrestlemania. One of the worst I have ever seen.

Show and Foley were NOT spose to be in the Main event; I think that's why Show was eliminated in 5mins and the made Foley do unnecessary things. Foley was spose to be retired and Show lost the Rumble (mistake or not).

Of course they were! Look at the angle with the McMahons. This was definitely the original plan. They wouldn't have brought Foley back just one month after retirement if it wasn't.badnewzxl wrote:Show and Foley were NOT spose to be in the Main event; I think that's why Show was eliminated in 5mins and the made Foley do unnecessary things. They weren't spose to be in the Main Event bc Foley lost the RETIREMENT match and Show was not the Rumble winner; Linda and Shane made it possible for the both of them to be in the match. They just used the main event at Mania to perpetuate the McMahon family saga. Everybody knew that the main event needed an HAD to be Rock v. HHH, ultimately; that's what the fans wanted. Foley's story was inspirational and Show had a legit gripe, so they threw the both of them in there and used the McMahons as enablers (bc the true feud among their family was Vince and Stephs feud).Big Red Machine wrote:Of course they were! And they DEF could have brought Foley back a month after retirement EASILY bc the whole reason he accepted the stipulation of the match where he was retired was to get a chance to MAIN EVENT WM.
I'm not saying they weren't WRITTEN to be in the main event; I mean from the kayfabe standpoint, only the Rock was spose to get the shot at HHH. Show didn't "win" the Rumble and Foley was "retired." I say this is why Show lost in under five mins and Foley broke up pins to try to milk his main event match.

In kayfabe terms, of course they were supposed to. Especially Big Show, who earned his way into the match by beating The Rock at No Way Out (lust like Orton did in 2006).
And even if you think that Show kayfabe wasn't supposed to be in the match, that is no reason to bury him in it.

I didn't think of it as burying the Big Show; I thought of it as trimming the fat so they could get down to what the FANS wanted at the time: Rock v. HHH one on one at WM. I remember ppl being much more excited about it than they were when Show and Foley and all the McMahon's became part of the match. You talk about overbooking, this is prolly the most prime example. Rock v. HHH didn't need any of those other folks; it didn't add anything but distraction. The main event became about the McMahons and not the two top guys in the company. When you involve all these people in one match, somebody's bound to come off as weak as hellBig Red Machine wrote:

Nobody has to come off week. Rock and Triple H got almost 20 minutes alone. Show staying in for another five or ten minutes wouldn't have mattered. Have him last longer, then do the spot, where they all realize that they need to team up to beat him, do the same "triple punching" spot they did, then each hit their finishers on him. Show is elminated, but looks strong because it took all three guys working together to take him down.badnewzxl wrote:I didn't think of it as burying the Big Show; I thought of it as trimming the fat so they could get down to what the FANS wanted at the time: Rock v. True; do they not gang up in him to beat him? Or does he get Rolled up? I should watch that match again....Big Red Machine wrote:Nobody has to come off week. Re: BRM Reviews WWF Wrestlemania 2000
There were one or two spots with them punching him, then they each took turns giving him a shoulder tackle. He was eventually eliminated by a weak-looking chairshot followed by a Double-Arm DDT by Foley. Nothing that should put him down in less than five minutes.badnewzxl wrote:True; do they not gang up in him to beat him? Or does he get Rolled up?
