BRM Reviews the 3/16/2012 Smackdown (*SPOILERS*)

CHRISTIAN SEGMENT WITH THE GM’S- Good
The major problem with everything WWE has been doing with Teddy Long is that they write him like they want him to be some Austin-esque tank full of attitude, but Teddy has none whatsoever. He is just projects an anti-charisma field all around the arena. Even Christian sounded boring once Teddy Long came out. Anyway, Teddy is unhappy that Christian has joined Johnny Ace’s team, so he tries to punish him by putting him in a match (because that is a very babyface thing to do), but Teddy apparently doesn’t know that Christian has an injury preventing him from competing. As Cole pointed out, this makes Teddy look just plain incompetent. Teddy might claim that he hasn’t seen anything, but he did this same thing a few months ago with Mark Henry. Because he can’t put Christian in the match, Teddy makes Otunga wrestle a match, not giving Otunga chance to get his gear. Again, because that is a very babyface thing to do. So we get…

DAVID OTUNGA vs. KOFI KINGSTON (w/Santino Marella)- 4/10
Once again, WWE is not allowing Johnny Ace to get ANY HEAT AT ALL.

DRAGON & AJ BACKSTAGE- AWESOME segment. This is how they should be playing this relationship for now. “Shut up, AJ” is not only too easy, but it both doesn’t hurt enough and is bad for a slow build. Having Dragon buy AJ a slinky dress which is obviously too short for her to feel comfortable going out in public in… then when she brings it up (in as polite and respectful a way as possible)… he tells her that he thinks it fit the mannequin better… (to borrow a line from Charlie Sheen in Major League 2: “What an asshole. What an unbelievable asshole.) It is impossible to watch this and not want to punch Dragon in the face… then he goes to the complements and telling AJ that she could be the Divas Champion and together, with them both holding gold, it would be awesome… GRRR! Just PERFECT stuff here.

AJ (w/Daniel Bryan) vs. Nikkie Bella (w/Brie Bella)- 4/10.
Would anyone be surprised if I said that I actually jumped out of my seat in excitement when AJ won this match?
Dragon was great on the outside… but on the other end of the competence spectrum…. we have Booker T. When Taz says dumb things, it is because he isn’t thinking. Booker just seems to be thinking of ways to be contradictory just for contradiction’s sake. Thankfully Cole and Matthews tore him to shreds, but this is just another example of why Booker NEEDS to be removed from the announce table.

CODY RHODES PROMO- good.

CODY RHODES vs. THE GREAT KHALI- 4/10
THE GREAT KHALI loses cleanly in just over three minutes. Anytime an annouincer tals about a size advantage, it now means almost nothing.

RANDY ORTON & KANE SEGMENT- great

DREW MCINTYRE vs. THE BIG SHOW- DUD!
This just had some absolutely HORRID booking.
1) Drew seemed disappointed about this. Why? Cody (who is smaller than Drew) just beat Kahli (who is larger than Show) in three minutes.
2). Having Drew lose here just justifies Teddy Long’s belief that Drew doesn’t belong on Smackdown. It makes him look like a punk. His only win is against HORNSWOGGLE. WTF?

MARK HENRY vs. YOSHI TATSU- good squash

CHRIS JERICHO PROMO- GREAT!

CHRIS JERICHO vs. SHEAMUS- 7.5/10.
GREAT main event. The finish was slightly disappointing, but I have no major problem with it.

Overall, a bad episode of Smackdown saved by a great main event, Orton and Kane, and Dragon & AJ.

the McIntyre thing was obviously just kharma from last week; Long put him in a position where HE had to face someone twice HIS size. That's all it was. the fact that Cody had just beaten Khali is irrelevant. Show is about a million times better than Khali, first of all; Cody's better than McIntyre, too. Plus, regardless of who else had beaten whomever else, it's gotta suck having to be in the ring with a pissed off (bc of Cody) near 500lb giant who will KNOCK YOU OUT!

I don't care who beat who earlier in the night, I'd hate to have to get in the ring with the Giant ANY day of the week.

Honest to God, when AJ won, I wanted to slap Booker T senseless.

Let's look at the facts:

The Bellas attempted to cheat. Daniel PREVENTED any cheating from taking place. Other than making sure that the match was completely fair, Daniel Bryan had no involvement. Even when he did stop the cheating, Brie got involved while the ref was distracted. Then AJ came back with a brilliant counter, and got the three count fair and square.

It was nothing but a freaking clean win. WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT BOOKER T?!

Also, I think it was a VERY wise move to give Cody a clean win over Khali. This is a guy that most wrestlers would be scared to get in the ring with. This is the man that brutalised The Undertaker upon his debut. That man just got outsmarted and defeated by Cody Rhodes. That makes Rhodes an instant threat to Big Show at Wrestlemania.

I wanted to slap him LONG before that.
Booker T "she doesn't want to be in there"At which point Cole and Matthews shouted "What are you talking about? She is a wrestler. It is her job!"

I love Booker T, but he was just looking ignorant as hell in that instance. I myself couldn't even let it slide; he was too busy trying to oppose Cole that he made NO sense, lol.

Exactly. I normally find him tolerable enough that it's funny, but there was just no getting over it this week. He's so busy trying to oppose every thing that comes out of Michael Cole's mouth that he takes away from the product as a whole. Cole right now is perfect. He's turned down the heel persona somewhat, and is now at the place where he can call a match and be a heel at the same time without one taking away from the other.

Booker T however is more concerned with telling Cole to shut up that he can't call a damn match. Not that he does that great a job anyway. Everything's a sidewalk slam, there seems to be "a fight about to break out right here" every match, and shucky ducky quack quack. Oh, and Sin Cara had a black mark on his boots.

Booker T can be funny sometimes with his nonsense rambling that adds nothing to matches, but that's not what we need. At least while Taz makes stupid comments, he knows how to call a match.
