BRM Reviews the 8/9/2012 Impact

Post by Big Red Machine » Aug 10th, '12, 06:56

OPENING SEGMENT- OMFG shut up already. “Twittah machine” was funny the first time. By the 78th, it stops being funny. Otherwise, a decent promo From Bubba. James Storm was also decent.

ACES & EIGHTS PROMO- How did they take over the PandaTron? Anyway, I think this was a mistake. They should have had Sting call Aces & Eights out to give them open mic time, but have them not show up (them not showing up last week establishes that they don’t show up some weeks). Then, later in the show, when they show up and jump people and do things on ‘their time and their terms,’ it is a surprise.

POPE PROMO- good

BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: Magnus vs. Rob Van Dam- 3/10
Too short

BOBBY ROODE PROMO – OMFG a contract signing with an actual reason that we should watch it!

WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Christopher Daniels & Kazarian(c) Garrett Bischoff & Devon- 4/10

During this match, Tenay said that Devon had been acting as a mentor to Garrett recently. This illustrates one of the major problems I have with TNA: They tell instead of showing. Devon has been mentoring Garrett? So show us! Give us a backstage segment where Devon gives Garrett some advice after a match. Look at what ROH did with AJ Styles and Jimmy Rave. THAT is how you establish a mentorship.

STING PROMO- good. I liked the lack of face paint here, too.

ROBBIE E. PROMO- aw… I wanted to hear the end of Robbie’s list. If one of his reasons for being better than Jeff was funny, it might have justified this segment.

AJ STYLES PROMO- good… but are they really making AJ wrestle tonight? They have four more weeks full of Impact and house shows to get this match in. Are they really going to make AJ wrestle tonight, when he is jet-lagged because he got back from a TNA sponsored trip to promote TNA? That just seems like a dick move on TNA’s part.

SAMOA JOE PROMO- awesome

BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle- 7.25/10
Spotty but great. They did a great job with some of the nearfalls.

ACES & EIGHTS PROMO #2- pointless. All they said was that they were going to attack someone tonight. That’s what everyone already assumed they were going to do.

ANDERSON & STORM BACKSTAGE- good

GAIL KIM vs. MISS TESSMACHER- 4.5/10

JOSEPH PARK PROMO- LOVED IT!

KENNY KING VIDEO PACKAGE- AWESOME!

CONTRACT SIGNING- BAD! If Aries is so certain that he can beat Roode, why not just offer to have the stip removed so that Roode can get rematches (which Aries is confident that he can win) and to make sure that if Roode screws him, he will still get his rematch?

GUNNER & KASH vs. CHAVO & HERNANDEZ VIDEO PACKAGE- it made the match official, but didn’t interest me in the match at all.

BOUND FOR GLORY SERIES MATCH: James Storm vs. Bully Ray- 6/10
Not good enough for a main event.

ACES & EIGHTS SAY THEY’RE COMING FOR BUBBA ON PPV- eh.

Overall, an okay episode of Impact.

STUPID ANNOUNCER QUOTES:
1. Tenay- “In the past few months we have seen how Devon and Garrett Bischoff have been a united team, even to the point where last week they showed their unity stepping forward last week to stand up to Aces & Eights.”
By that logic Austin Aries and Bobby Roode are a team! Compare this statement with Taz, who said that these two have been teaming on house shows recently, as well as TV. Which one puts over the concept of Devon & Garrett having a chance at winning the tag titles better?

2. Tenay- “Well, another message from Aces & Eights, finding out tonight who is getting the dead man’s hand, up next. This all because Sting invited Aces & Eights to be heard tonight.”
Yeah, because Aces & Eights weren’t assaulting being before Sting invited them on TV this week. Do you ever think before you speak, Tenay?
Hold #712: ARM BAR!

It was VERY good. I'm VERY excited about Hardcore Justice, too. The card looks GREAT! If I were in charge tho, I'd make the ladder match last bc those guys are gonna TEAR THE HOUSE DOWN!....tho they'll prolly wanna end with some Aces and Eights stuff....

I'm quite hyped about the ppv. I'm really interested to see what they're willing to do with the falls count anywhere. being a 4 way, two pairs can head in different directions with synchronized pins, or having a dude run down from the locker room to the parking lot to break up a pin or submission, stuff like that.
