ROH’s 100th Show (4/22/2006)- Philadelphia, PA
WARNING! This DVD contains nudity!
The show starts off with a good promo by Cabana, hyping up his ROH World Title match tonight.
Then we got a great promo from a half-naked Lacey telling Jimmy that she wouldn’t be in his corner at this show because he didn’t deserve to have her in his corner… but if he won the match, she would take her shirt off (it was implied that this was the only thing she was wearing) on ROHvideos.com
CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI vs. CHRISTOPHER DANIELS (w/Allison Danger)- 7/10.
- After the match Daniels cut a good promo putting over both Claudio and ROH… then he shook Claudio’s hand. This was the first time that Daniels had ever followed the Code of Honor and shaken hands in ROH.
Once Daniels had gone backstage, Chris Hero showed up in the crowd and cut a promo on the ROH fans. This was very well done. This was the first show at which they had set up separate bleachers… one for ROH fans, and one for CZW fans, directly across from each other. Hero started his promo on the ROH side of the arena, and ended it on the CZW side.
FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL MATCH: Jimmy Yang (w/Bruce Leroy) vs. Jimmy Jacobs vs. Delirious vs. Jimmy Rave (w/Daizee Haze & Prince Nana)- 6/10.
Jimmy brought a large picture of Lacey to ringside with him. Yang took the picture and started to skullf*ck it, enraging Jimmy.
Jacobs had the match won, but stopped covering Yang, then tapped to the Cobra Stretch.
ROH WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Austin Aries & Roderick Strong(c) vs. Ricky Reyes & Homicide (w/Julius Smokes)- 6.5/10.
ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Bryan Danielson(c) vs. Colt Cabana- No rating. This was a GENIUS booking idea by Gabe. Dragon won very quickly with a roll up. This was to show that Cabana has spent so long “fighting” that he “forgot how to wrestle.” It sets Colt’s next angle (chasing for the ROH World Title) up perfectly.
Colt has shaved for the first time in a long time (possibly since his feud with Cide began), and clean-shaven Colt is back to his fun-loving self during his entrance. This was a great touch by Cabana.
Sorry everyone. The nudity in question is not Lacey’s boobs, but rather Danielson’s ass. He mooned the CZW fans (to which the ROH fans chanted “HOLY SH*T!”), and the camera got it all.
At intermission, Jimmy Jacobs cut an AMAZING promo, saying that “love conquers all.” The reason that he gave up a win in tonight’s match, was that so Lacey wouldn’t have to take her shirt off on ROHVideos.com. This angle is AWESOME!
ROH TOP OF THE CLASS TROPHY MATCH: Derek Dempsey(c) vs. Pelle Primeau- 4/10. Both guys seemed good in the ring, though.
After the match, the new head trainer of the ROH Wrestling School, Bryan Danielson came out to the ring, and cut a great promo on CZW and its fans ("these guys are from the ROH Wrestling School, and the match that they just put on had more technical wrestling than CZW has had in its entire history").
Dragon then called out Delirious (after teasing calling out, Aries, Roddy, and Daniels), and gave him a shot at the ROH World Title.
ROH WORLD TITLE MATCH: Bryan Danielson(c) vs. Delirious- 7.25/10. Delirious bled A LOT during this match, which is something we’re not used to seeing from him.
THE BRISCOE BROTHERS vs. MATT SYDAL & AJ STYLES 7.5/10.
VERBAL DEBATE between Jim Cornette (w/Adam Pearce) and John Zandig- Eat your heart out, Vince Russo! THIS is how you do a WORKED SHOOT! You got the very real felling that these two would come to blows at any moment. AMAZING SEGMENT!
At the end, Zandig calls some CZW guys out and tells them to kick Cornette’s ass. Hero, Necro Butcher, and Super Dragon come out and surround the ring, but Samoa Joe and BJ Whitmer come out for ROH to even the odds, leading to…
ROH vs. CZW NO DQ'S MATCH: Team ROH (BJ Whitmer, Samoa Joe, & Adam Pearce) vs. Team CZW (Super Dragon, Chris Hero, & Necro Butcher)-
Both team have brought their own referee as well. At the beginning of the match, Claudio Castagnoli came out and stole Zandig’s barbed wire baseball bat. Both teams brought the hate here, and you could see feel it. This was freaking BRUTAL! They even did the little things that just showed NO RESPECT for the other promotion (things like one of the ROH guys [either Pearce of Whitmer, don’t remember who] trying to rip off Super Dragon’s mask). All six guys did an AMAZING job of playing to the crowd in this match, and it really added to it. THIS is how you do a worked shoot. 9.25/10!
The one thing that was weird was, after Zandig got involved, making it 4-on-3 in favor of CZW, Claudio came out, tossed Zandig out of the ring and pulled Hero off of Joe… then turned on Joe and ROH, joining with CZW. It would have made more sense to do this during a burst of Joe’s offense, teasing turning a 2-on-1 disadvantage into a fair fight, but then making it a 3-on-1 disadvantage. Both ways would have messed with the fans emotions equally, but doing it the way they did just disrupted CZW’s offense.
This was the first show where they had bleachers specifically for ROH fans and bleachers specifically for CZW fans, and while it did create the desired atmosphere, I feel like it hurt the show, simply because, until the main event, it felt like the CZW fans were only there to spit in the ROH fan’s soup. They constantly did things like chant “This match sucks” and “F*ck you, ROHbots!” or chant “TNA” at Daniels. They were basically trolls, and in my book that is not okay.
Overall, this was a very good show. The main event itself makes the show worth buying, but the Briscoes vs. AJ & Sydal match was also great, and Daniels vs. Claudio and Dragon vs. Delirious were also very good.
