BRM Reviews the 4/22/2014 Main Event

ALBERTO DEL RIO vs. BIG E. NO LONGER LANGSTON- 5.5/10
Got better towards the end. After the match, Bad News Barrett rose up on his podium, said Big E.'s days as champ were numbered and buried Big E. for being boring. For anyone who still had had any delusions after Raw, RVD is not winning this tournament. Sorry..... though I do have to wonder why they did this angle now instead of after the end of the tournament. It would have worked just as well then, and would still keep open the possibility that RVD would win the tournament and beat Big E. in order to then feud with and lose the belt to Cesaro.

EL TORITO (w/Los Matadores) vs. HORNSWOGGLE (w/3MB)- 4/10
To hype this up, they showed the same exact video package they did on Raw and last week's Smackdown... with no mention whatsoever of the "5 man tag team match" on Smackdown.
The announcers are treating this like a joke, but I'm really into this feud. Torito is a great wrestler, and Hornswoggle has adjusted himself to a 3MB level of douchiness very well.

SHEAMUS vs. TITUS O'NEIL- 5.75/10

Apparently Dragon isn’t hurt that badly and, after getting murderized by Kane, he will still be on Raw next week. That's dumb. At least they acknowledged that he is "very lucky" not to be hurt worse.

JIMMY USO (w/Jey Uso) vs. RYBACK (w/Curtis Axel)- 5/10
Builds to a tag title match.

Overall, an okay episode of Main Event. It was an hour of short, average matches that could have been much better if they hadn't wasted time. they still wasted a lot of time. I get that the Raw recaps are important, but there was no reason to do the Sheamus vs. Titus match. None at all. Sheamus doesn't get anything from beating a nobody, and it only makes Titus look like even more of a nobody to lose to Sheamus in seven minutes. At this point I have lost all hope for him for now. PTP will go down as just another tag team that WWE broke up for no real reason, then did a short, bad feud with before both guys were totally forgotten about, accomplishing absolutely nothing other than lowering both guys' stock. This show would have been much better if they had cut that match out entirely, given its time to Big E. vs. Del Rio, and made Big E, vs. Del Rio the main event.
One thing I will say is in this show's favor, though, for the second straight week, it feels like the events of Main Event actually do matter. Last week we had the stuff with Los Matadores and El Torito, resolved the issues between Big Show and Jack Swagger, and we established a #1 contender to the Divas Title. This week, Totio and Hornswoggle even things up at one, presumably building to a rubber match (which, for the record, I would be totally fine with them putting on the PPV), some build to what will presumably be the tag title match at Extreme Rules, and a blow-off to this short Del Rio vs. Big E. program (another reason why that match should have been the main event: it was finishing something instead of just continuing it- also it would have ended the show on a happy note). An hour of average matches is not worth watching unless it accomplishes something, and Main Event is starting to do that on a consistent basis. If they keep this up, I might actually watch it every week.
