BRM Reviews Ultimate Lucha Part 2 (awesome)
We have a new announcer to replace Vampiro tonight. His name is Michael Schiavello. Apparently he is well-known. I thought he did a great job
JOHNNY MUNDO vs. ALBERTO EL PATRON- 7.5/10
Who the f*ck is that?! Wait. That’s MELINA?! NO F*CKING WAY.
A good brawl. I was REALLY hoping for a clean finish, so the appearance of Melina kind of killed this for me. Maybe I’d have been happier with it if I knew for certain we’d be getting a second season.
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- Alberto interrupts Johnny and Melina’s post-victory make-out sessions to beat Johnny up, eventually throwing him through the window to Dario’s office. This wasn’t bad, but it just felt like something that should have happened later in the feud.
Melina tried to attack Alberto but he no-sold everything, and then spanked her. Hooray for sexual harassment from the babyface. I thought this was pointless and terrible.
And HOLY F*CK JOHNNY IS BLEEDING ALL OVER THE PLACE!
DRAGON AZTECA SHOWS UP TO RESCUE BLACK LOTUS- ooohhhhh sh*t
Dario tells him he will now have to die because, by entering the temple, he “broke an ancient treaty.” We tease the monster being unleashed, but it is Black Lotus herself who does the deed and kills Dragon Azteca!
Dario lets Black Lotus out of her cell and tells her that killing Dragon Azteca has just started some crazy war and that they must now leave. And Matanza will be coming with them. So Dario opens the cage, leading to the most frustrating commercial break of my entire life.
CERO MIEDO MATCH: Pentagon Jr. vs. Vampiro- 8/10
For the first time someone finally explains to us that a “Cero Miedo” match basically just means No DQ. In reality, what we got was a deathmatch. This is not a style of wrestling that I enjoy, but I’m fine with seeing something like this about once a year. They did a very good job making everything matter, and Vamprio’s… I don’t know if it was just wacky selling or how his character normally sells or if it was unintentional because his body is so broken down, but his jerky movements really added something to this match for me. All of that being said, I was absolutely scared to death when Vamp was set on fire and don’t want to see people cutting their tongues with light tubes so please no one ever do this again.
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- weird.
Vampiro asks Pentagon Jr. to break his arm, so Pentagon Jr. does so. Pentagon Jr. then asks for his master to reveal himself, so he does… It’s Vampiro. WHAT THE F*CK?!
Well… that was quite the swerve.
Because it’s Lucha Underground, I will assume that there is a bit more going on here. The whole “you are ready” comment seems to indicate that this is the case. So the question becomes: what is Pentagon Jr. now ready for? And it had better be something bigger than just “a title shot.”
SEVEN WAY MATCH TO CROWN THE FIRST EVER LUCHA UNDERGROUND GIFT OF THE GODS CHAMPION: Sexy Star vs. Bengala vs. Jack Evans vs. King Cuerno vs. Big Ryck vs. Aero Star vs. Fenix- 7/10
Marty the Moth did a pointless run-in. Daivari did a good run-in. There were A LOT of really good, safe catches on the dives in this match. Not sure why I noticed it, but I did. The match was spotty but fun.
NO DISQUALIFICATIONS MATCH: El Texano Jr. vs. Blue Demon Jr. (w/the Crew)- DUD!
Now that they are with him, Blue Demon Jr. has the Crew dressed up in suits and blue ties. They now look like proper henchmen instead of merely hired thugs. Also, Dario has made this match no DQ’s because Blue Demon Jr. asked him to.
Chavo Guerero Jr. came out to do the most transparent swerve in the history of any promotion ever (excluding TNA, of course). The match was over quick with the numbers game and weapons getting the best of Texano Jr. This really felt like a waste of time.
LUCHA UNDERGROUND TITLE MATCH: Prince Puma(c) vs. Mil Muertes (w/Catrina)- 8.5/10
Can you say “big match feel?” This had that in spades. Every move felt big, which made the false finishes all feel huge.
THE CRAZY ENDING MONTAGE!
DARIO AND BLACK LOTUS PACK UP AND FLEE-
They made a point of showing Dario coming back specifically to get the red bull statuette, proving my theories correct! They get into a truck to leave, and in the back of the truck is MATANZA… but we only see a mask. BOOO! Those teasing bastards!
FENIX DRIVES AWAY WITH HIS NEWLY-WON GIFT OF THE GODS CHAMPIONSHIP… AND A MYSTERY PERSON IS FOLLOWING HIM!
MARTY THE MOTH HAS KIDNAPPED SEXY STAR! And he says “you won’t be laughing when you meet my sister.”
IVELISSE, SON OF HAVOK, & ANGELICO WANT THEIR TITLES BACK- they ride off on motorcycles… with Ivelisse and Son of Havok riding together.
AEROSTAR & DRAGO BUMP INTO EACH OTHER BACKSTAGE- Drago disappears in a puff of fire. Then Aerostar flies away with what seems like a jet pack.
PENTAGON JR. & VAMPIRO ARE HEADED TO “A DARK PLACE”
HOODIE-GUY (the one who had the fight with Dragon Azteca last week and who found Prince Puma in the first episode) SPRAY-PAINTS A QUESTION MARK OVER THE LUCHA UNDERGROUND SIGN- this made me sad that there might not be a season 2.
DARIO STANDS THERE AS THE LIGHTS SHUT OFF AROUND HIM- and at the end he is illuminated by a faint red glow… and I think he let out a little, evil smile.
An awesome show, with an ending montage that shows just what a tragedy it will be if we don’t get a second season.

that was King Cuerno in his cowboy attire. They should have the first LU match to happen in a bar or something
IVELISSE, SON OF HAVOK, & ANGELICO WANT THEIR TITLES BACK- they ride off on motorcycles… with Ivelisse and Son of Havok riding together.
i love the idea of Son of Havoc being the one riding in the back, and i hope that had been the way the whole time

the interesting thing is that this guy took Dragon Azteca's mask and put it on. Meltzer also hinted that (and now it makes sense) that the question mark is a call for Rey Mysterio

I didn't notice he took Dragon Azteca's mask, but that makes sense with Dragon Azteca's comments form last week the he may die, but Dragon Azteca will live on.
As for Rey... is the question mark his Bat Signal?
I think that's reading too much into it.

I love this. The finale completely booked me. Are they renewed for a new season yet.

Here is what Dave wrote about the ending montage:
Between this and his write-up on the AJ vs. Fale match, it makes me wonder how much attention he actually pays. The show ended with lots of the guys bidding farewell. Black Lotus and Dario Cueto were still packing money and finally left with the monster. Marty the Moth was still in the building and tied up Sexy Star and was laughing at her being helpless. Ivelisse and Havoc left together on a motorcycle so I guess their romance is back on. Vampiro and Pentagon cut a promo together and disappeared. Then we found out that Dragon Azteca is still alive, and there was a ? (for the season two debut of Rey Mysterio if this comes to fruition) as the show ended.

I've noticed that not a lot. Same with Bryan. I think that at this point they just play the shows on a TV while doing 100 other stuff. I know Alvarez sometimes watches shows while recording podcasts for instanceBig Red Machine wrote:Here is what Dave wrote about the ending montage:Between this and his write-up on the AJ vs. Fale match, it makes me wonder how much attention he actually pays. The show ended with lots of the guys bidding farewell. But at least Bryan has Craig and Vinny and Lance to pay attention for him when he misses something.cero2k wrote:I've noticed that not a lot. Same with Bryan. and Tom, and Mike. I can totally understand them having a lot of work, but it does sometimes annoy me that Meltzer and Bryan judge something when they don't pay that much attention
