Daniel Bryan says the WWE is not creating new stars right now

Daniel Bryan is currently traveling worldwide to help promote the upcoming WWE 2K16 video game, among other things. On Thursday, he was in Dubai and had an interview with The National, Abu Dhabi Media’s first English-language news publication. The National asked Bryan about Steve Austin being on the cover of the game instead of a current WWE Superstar. This is what he had to say:

“It is interesting because I see it two ways. I see maybe people who don’t watch it anymore, who were big fans in the Attitude Era, which was the most popular time in wrestling. It would appeal to people who may not be watching the current product, but would be interested in the video game. One of the things I think it shows is that we have not really created enough new stars, to where we put new stars on the front of the video game, so that should be the overall bigger concern. We need to not just rely on people from the past. There is almost this mentality these stars are bigger than the current stars, and they keep going with the mentality when the guys now are every bit as good as the guys from before, it is just they need to be given the platform.”

Those are great points. It always upsets me when I here that someone has lost favor backstage; it only makes the company look too impatient. It's like they expect overnight success when NONE of the icons of the company reached those heights that fast. Wyatt, Ambrose, Rollins, and Reigns are on the same cusp Austin and Rock were at in 98, and HHH was in 99; 3 to 4 years after debuting in the company. Cena and Orton were the same way, as were Edge and Batista. Even Punk took a while to get there. Not everyone can be an instant star like Lesnar, Goldberg, Angle, and very, very few others. The lack of Punk and Bryan has developed a slight lack of interest in wrestling (although Lesnars return has helped a lot) and created a lull in WWE similar to the one from the mid 90s. HBK and Bret stayed around long enough to really get the next guys over and Punk and Bryan haven't been able to. But I still think Wyatt, Reigns, Rollins, and Ambrose will be the headlining four a lot like Cena, Orton, Batista, and Edge were last decade and Rock, Austin, and HHH before them, and HBK, Taker, and Bret before them.
