Deadline.com reported late last night that FOX has purchased the rights to "The Work" a dramatic soap opera take on the world of professional wrestling. The Network will now develop the series based on a script written by novelist Scott O’Connor with 20 Century FOX is set to produce the potential series. No further details on the series are known as of this writing.
There have been a number of pro wrestling-centric series that have been in development over the years but never made it to air, including a drama set in the territory era that NBC and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson attempted to cultivate, a HBO series that was to be produced by Norman Lear titled "Everybody Hurts" that was also set to take place over the territory days set in NYC and a comedic take on the pro wrestling genre "Slammed" that NBC purchased with Jimmy Fallon set as Executive Producer. Perhaps the FOX series will be the one that finally breaks through and makes air.
