BRM Reviews the 11/18/2015 NXT

NIA JAX vs. CARMELLA- -0.75/10
Jax is developing a bit of a heel personality here, but she still just comes off as a very, very, very poor woman’s Awesome Kong to me.

ALEXA BLISS! PROMO- mostly great, but it had some weak parts towards the beginning.
A ref tells Alexa that Blake and Murphy will be barred from ringside tonight.

THE ASCENSION vs. JASON JORDAN & CHAD GABLE- 3.25/10
Wow. Jordan & Gable’s music SUCKS. They also need new gear. The stuff they are wearing tonight looks like it was made from discarded scraps of Team Angle singlets.
I was expecting a lot more out of this match.

BAYLEY-ALEXA VIDEO PACKAGE- awesome.

BAYLEY PROMO- GREAT!

EMMA vs. MARY KAY- 4.25/10
Mary Kay is WWN’s Andrea. This went longer than I expected it to.

BARON CORBIN PROMO- okay. He has definitely improved a lot, though. He challenged Apollo Crews to a match at Takeover: London.

DASH WILDER & SCOTT DAWSON vs. COREY HOLLIS & SKYLER- good squash
It was a squash, but it was different than most squashes because they played into Dash and Dawson’s gimmick which is that they just target a limb and keep working it over and break it down with relentless focus. The finish was really weird, though, as they worked over Hollis’ leg the whole match… but then he got the hot tag and Dash and Dawson immediately hit Skyler with their finisher and pinned him. A submission victory on Hollis would have made a lot more sense.

ASUKA & DANA BROOKE SEGMENT- Dana Brooke was very… Dana Brooke. The things she says manage to sound both completely scripted and completely natural coming out of her mouth at the same time. Dana challenged Asuka to a match. Asuka said yes. Emma and Dana appear to have an evil plan in place.

SAMOA JOE PROMO- good.

NXT WOMEN’S TITLE MATCH: Bayley(c) vs. Alexa Bliss!- 6.25/10
The crowd has a new Bayley song that they sing to the tune of the song they made up for the Hype Bros. It’s annoying as hell.
The match was pretty good, but I was hoping for a bit more heel viciousness out of Alexa.

CLOSING SEGMENT-
Eva Marie comes out and challenges Bayley to a Women’s Title match next week. She got like BJ Whitmer level heat, where they just plain wouldn’t let her talk. Bayley mocked her by leaning in very close like she couldn’t hear Eva even though Eva had a mic. That made me laugh.

A decent show from NXT. It was a lot of squashes, but a lot of stuff did feel like it was moving forward.
Lots of focus on the women this week, and I can’t help but wonder if they did it that way on purpose because they knew UFC 193 would be last weekend. Then again, I doubt I would have noticed any correlation at all if Ronda hadn’t lost.

nah, NXT has alwasy had strong women themed episodes, particularly when the world title takes the day off.
