BRM Reviews the 2/13/2016 ROH

TOP PROSPECT TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINAL MATCH: Lio Rush vs. Jason Kincaid- 5.5/10
Both guys looked impressive. It’d have been nice if they actually spent some time talking about Rush… or if they weren’t going to do that, at least give us some actual details about the severe poverty in which Kincaid grew up so that it doesn’t come off as a cheap ploy for us to like this guy.
Also, Rush needs to lose either the dreads or the beard. He looks too wacky (if I were him, I’d keep the dreads because pretty much everyone in indy wrestling has the beard nowadays).

SILAS YOUNG & THE BEER CITY BRUISER vs. CAPRICE COLEMAN & WILL FERRARA- 6/10
Speaking of beards that need to go… that thing on Ferrara’s face looks horrid.
Prince Nana has joined Nigel and Kevin on commentary for this match.
Coleman and Ferrara are teaming now with no explanation. Could we at least get a segment with Nana handing them each an envelope so there is at least an implied reason that they are teaming together just a few weeks after trying to kill each other in a No Disqualifications match?
They actually had me getting behind Caprice and Ferrara here. I could have done without the overbooking with the Boys, but I guess it is the best way to give Ferrara and Coleman a win while minimizing the damage to Silas and the Bruiser going into the PPV.

BJ WHITMER PROMO- Whitmer and Page come out and Whitmer cuts a promo on Corino supposedly having a friend who wants to fight Whitmer. He made a reference to Punk and Cabana that you have to be a long-time ROH fan to even realize he was talking about Punk and Cabana… and it was vague enough that it’s entirely possible that instead of a reference to Punk and Cabana, this was actually a reference to C.W. Anderson and Guillotine LeGrande.
Whitmer tells Corino’s pal, whoever he might be, to come out and face him… and Corino himself shows up on the ramp. Corino tells us all that he’ll fight Whitmer… but not today.
ADAM PAGE grabs Whitmer from behind, spins him around, snatches the mic away from him and says that he was the one who wanted to fight Whitmer on behalf of Corino. And we got no explanation other than that. Then they had a pull-apart.
And thus, over a year of work on building up Adam Page and the Decade was flushed down the toilet.

14th ANNIVERSARY SHOW COMMERCIAL- infuriating
The PPV will take place on Friday Feb. 26. Unfortunately, the graphic says Sat. Feb. 26. Really guys? Really? You’re supposed be professionals, not f*cking WCW!

TIM HUGHES vs. MARK BRISCOE- pointless squash.
Mark Briscoe’s entrance music is called “Anthem of the Sussex County Chicken.” That is so uncreative it’s disturbing.
Hughes refuses a handshake, loudly declaring that Brutal Bob taught him to never ever shake hands. Okay… this is ROH. Shouldn’t Hughes and Bob both be fired if that is going to be their stance?
Hell… leaving that aside, Hughes should still be fired. He’s f*cking terrible. His gimmick is that he is a bad wrestler who screams a lot. He’s like Melina, but with less talent and smaller tits.
Making this whole situation even more frustrating is the fact that this match not happening could have improved these tapings in SOOOO many ways:
1. Tonight’s main event, ACH & Sydal vs. The Young Bucks, could have gotten more time… which it sorely needed because it went LESS THAN EIGHT MINUTES
2. We wouldn’t have been subjected to Tim Hughes (and ROH would save money by not having to pay him).
3. Not doing this match would free Mark up so you could put him into the Elgin vs. Moose vs. Jay Briscoe match, making it a Four Corner Survival. This would then let you actually do the story that Elgin claimed happened (that he lost because two guys in the match were ganging up on him) in a way that not only makes a lot more sense to build to Briscoes vs. Elgin &Tanahashi, but also makes it so that Elgin would actually have a point and wouldn’t come off looking like such a whiner.
(And that would also build up nicely to a Briscoes vs. Moose & Elgin match for the Winter Warriors Tour in which Moose could pin Mark, which would not only build Moose up for Okada, but also show us that Elgin teaming with a partner is capable of beating the Briscoes going into the Briscoes vs. Elgin & Tanahashi match).

THE YOUNG BUCKS vs. ACH & MATT SYDAL- 6.75/10
Sydal and ACH have actually been teaming for about fourteen months now, but the Tale of the Tape graphic still listed them as having zero years of experience as a team.
This match went less than eight televised minutes. They did the best they could with it, but this should not be happening in Ring of Honor. I’m glad that ACH and Sydal won, but this match just doesn’t feel like it will mean anything because nothing has been done with ACH and Sydal in the year since they started teaming. They’re both very talented guys and both have a lot of charisma. They'd make perfect challengers for War Machine if Delirious bothered to build them up as such, but he seems to see them as nothing more than undercard spot-fest filler.

A frustrating show from ROH.
