Seven names have been announced for WWE Network’s upcoming cruiserweight tournament.
The WWE Universe got its first taste of the upcoming Global Cruiserweight Series today when WWE COO Triple H revealed the tournament’s first few participants during a conference call.
NXT competitors Rich Swann, Tomasso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano along with international standouts Zack Sabre Jr., Noam Dar, Ho Ho Lun and Akira Tozawa were announced for the Global Cruiserweight Series, which begins with qualifying matches in the coming weeks, then airs live on July 13 on WWE Network.
“It’s a very diverse group,” Triple H said. “We’re scouring the globe and looking for the absolute best talent to be involved with this.”
Earlier this week, it was announced that independent organizations EVOLVE Wrestling, Revolution Pro Wrestling and PROGRESS Wrestling will host qualifying matches for the series.

Re: Triple H reveals first Global Cruiserweight Series participants
Ciampa as a Cruiserweight is just such a weird idea to me. Same with Tozawa, if I'm being honest. I just don't see him that way. Sabre Jr., too, but his size makes him a feel like it is inescapable to have a Cruiserweight thing and not concede that he should qualify as a Cruiserweight.
