BRM Reviews WWE Survivor Series 2010

Post by Big Red Machine » Feb 22nd, '11, 16:20

WWE Survivor Series 2010 (11/21/2010)- Miama, FL

WWE UNITED STATES TITLE MATCH: Daniel Bryan(c) vs. Ted Dibiase (w/Maryse)- 6.25/10
Good aftermath here, too. Miz attacks Dragon from behind, then cuts an AWESOME promo.

SHEAMUS PROMO- Good

SHEAMUS vs. JOHN MORRISON- 6.25/10. Sheamus looked like the dominant monster he should have been for the past few weeks, but Morrison still comes out with the win after a couple of kicks to the head. The finish looked good, though.

CENA-R-TRUTH SEGMENT- great.

WWE INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH: Dolph Ziggler(c) (w/Vickie Guerrero) vs. Kaval- 6.75/10. Very good. Kaval looked extremely strong in defeat.

While reminiscing about wrestlers who made their names at Survivor Series, none of the announcers mention The Undertaker.

TRADITIONAL SURVIVOR SERIES 10 MAN ELIMINATION TAG TEAM MATCH:
Rey Mysterio, MVP, Big Show, Kofi Kingston, & Chris Masters vs. Alberto Del Rio, Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, Jack Swagger, & Tyler Reks
Eliminating MVP first in his own hometown probably wasn’t the best idea.
During this match, Striker said something moronic about a college education.
Final score for this match- 6/10. The physical wrestling wasn’t bad, but the psychology was terrible. More of this obnoxious “Big Show and Rey beat all of the heels” crap we have seen way too much of recently.
I’m going to come out and say it… WWE needs to turn Big Show heel. He is unbearable as a babyface.

ORTON PROMO- Okay

HANDICAP MATCH FOR THE WWE DIVAS TITLE: Lay-Cool(c) vs. Natalya- 4/10. Short, but very good for the time it was given. Someone finally overcomes Lay-Cool’s 2-on-1 advantage, and a babyface retakes the title! YAY! This had great aftermath, too. Lay-Cool steals the moment by jumping her… and Beth Phoenix returns and makes the save.

WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH: Kane(c) vs. Edge-5.5/10. Not a very interesting or exciting match with a VERY dumb finish.
And why did Justin Roberts start announcing Edge as the winner? If he was paying attention, he would have seen that it was an obvious double pin. If he wasn’t, why did he just assume that Edge had won? Making assumptions like that, he might well be qualified to be a TNA referee.

A TIE? Really? A “TIE!” THAT is the word you are going to use? Isn’t there another, more wrestling-related term for this? Oh yeah! IT’S A F*CKING DRAW! Not a “tie.” A DRAW!
Also, the story leading into this match was bad. Edge was supposed to be the face… but he is the one doing things like kidnapping people! WTF? To me, it seems like KANE is the babyface here.

CENA-BARRETT SEGMENT- eh.

WWE TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH: Slater & Gabriel(c) (w/Otunga, Harris, & McGillicutty) vs. Kozlov & Santino- 4.75/10.

WWE Title WITH JOHN CENA AS SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE: Randy Orton(c) vs. Wade Barrett
If Barrett wins, Cena is out of Nexus, if Orton wins, Cena is fired- 6/10. Not good, and definitely not an acceptable main event, especially for a big Four PPV. Barrett barely got any offense in on Super-Orton, and they didn’t have enough good nearfalls to play off of the “what will Cena do?” angle with.
After the match, Nexus attacks, but the babyfaces fight them off.

CENA SENDOFF- This was done extremely well, and had a very “real” feeling to it… until Cena got all the way around the arena and walked backstage. If I were WWE, I would have faded to black with Cena still walking through the crowd. He can still walk the whole way around the arena, but cutting to black after he gets all the way around makes it seem more scripted.

Overall this show was extremely disappointing. This is one of the Big Four… and it just plain stunk. All of the main event matches were extremely disappointing, and not a single match better than 6.75/10. I’m not going to say that this was terrible, put it was pretty close. Definitely bad, though. To make matters worse, during the earlier parts of the show, the lights would occasionally flicker, which was distracting, and was a perfectly appropriate rotten cherry that was picked up off the floor to top off the crappy sundae that was this show.
