Chikara Pro Wrestling For Your Eyes Only 11/16/14
South Windsor, CT
Attendance: 170-200ish
(1) Four Corners Elimination Match: The Devastation Corporation (Blaster McMassive & Max Smashmaster) with Sidney Bakabella b Jervis Cottonbelly & "Smooth Sailin'" Ashely Remington, The Batiri (Kodama & Obaryian), and The Bloc Party (The Proletariat Boar of Moldova & Prakash Sabar). 2nd of two new Chikara referees this weekend as Dan Tanaka makes his debut.
- Boar p Cottonbelly with a gore in 9 minutes. This was a really strong first fall. Bakabella was selling hard that The Devastation Corporation only needed 1 point (a single victory without a loss) in order to earn a title shot at the Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas.
- Obaryian p Sabar in 11 minutes with an Alabama Slam/knee lift to the back double team. That was a wicked finished by the Batiri. Felt a lot longer than 2 minutes between falls, but that isn't a bad thing.
- Smashmaster p Kodama after the Death Blow (double leg pick-up/splash from the middle rope) in 16 minutes. Fun opener. DevCorp now has 3pts. Bakabella announced that they will challenge for the titles at Tomorrow Never Dies on December 6th on iPPV.
(2) Hallowicked b Worker Ant II with a body scissors into a victory roll in about 10-11 min. They did some fun chain wrestling. Crowd was into this despite the face-face match up. They built well to the finish and didn't go too long. Felt right. As Hallowicked raised Worker's hand post-match, Soldier Ant ran out and clipped Worker from behind. Worker had to be helped out.
(3) Nokken with Jakob Hammermeier, Milo Schnitzler, & Slashxxx of Bruderschaft des Kreuzes b Shynron after a running power slam in 6 minutes. Jakob interfered at the finish while Slashxxx distracted the referee. Story was Nokken couldn't put Shynron away. Shynron did a fun dive spot onto everyone and Slashxxx sold in a fun way. Milo over the top celebrated at the end of the match and Jakob gave the notice for Slashxxx to take him out. He did, but Milo pulled off his mask and revealed to be Pinkie Sanchez. The crowd went ballistic. The new and improved BDK posed. Milo has been kicked to the curb.
Before the next match, Jimmy Jacobs came out with his trophy belt of masks of all the wrestlers Deucalion has killed. Jacobs claims he isn't a monster but he runs with them. Chikara Grand Champion Icarus came out. Icarus wants to fight Deucalion. Deucalion comes to the ring. The entire Flood hits the ringside arean, then the Chikara locker room empties. Icarus demands to fight Deucalion. Deucalion laughs and tells Jacobs to make it official. They do. Icarus v. Deucalion is the main event for Tomorrow Never Dies on December 6th on iPPV. Everyone leaves without incident.
Bryce Remsburg was still strangely absent at this point, but would finally make an appearance in the final two matches.
(4) The Osirian Portal (Amasis & Ophidian) b The Wrecking Crew (Jaka & Oleg The Usurper) with Sidney Bakabella in 14 minutes when both Amasis & Ophidian pinned Oleg after a superplex while Ophidian was on Amasis' shoulders. This was really fun. Oleg is coming into his own. Bakabella did commentary for most of the match. The Osirian Portal finally got to get revenge on the Wrecking Crew for costing them a title shot at King of Trios. The Portal again has 2 points and is a win away from contention. There was a great false finish where Bakabella ran from the announce table to hit Amasis with a roll of nickels (he's too cheap for quarters, you see). Ophidian takes a fun pounding. Bakabella and Jaka berated Oleg for the loss post-match. The crowd chanted for Oleg. He has a chance to be a pretty fun babyface in the future.
Post intermission, Gavin Loudspeaker informed the crowd that Delirious would not be wrestling as scheduled tonight. His match with Frightmare has been cancelled.
(5) Eddie Kingston b The Lithuanian Snow Troll with "The Zombie Princess" Jimmy Jacobs & Volgar The Unknown in about 2 minutes. Kingston destroyed the Snow Troll. He hit 3 powerbombs (2 more thanks to a crowd request) and then a Backfist to the Future while Troll was on his knees for the win. Kingston called out Jacobs. Snow Troll got no offense. Jacobs and Kingston brawled. By my count, Kingston has at least 2 points after beating Volgar and now Snow Troll. A singles match and win over Jacobs would put Eddie in line for a Grand Championship shot. Jacobs hit a spear. Ultra Mantis Black hit the ring and we immediately went into the next match.
(6) "Zombie Princess" Jimmy Jacobs with Snow Troll & Volgar The Unknown b Ultra Mantis Black in about 4 minutes with a spear. Snow Troll caught Black in the corner with his chain leading to the finish, so he's still got Stockholm Syndrome. This was fun while it lasted, but it didn't last long. The guy next to me called this match his dream match and was furious when they barely got started. In retrospect, it seemed the first half of the card was given more room to breathe to stall for Delirious and this match suffered in length because of it. I'm sure we can explain Delirious' absence of the Eye of Tyr.
Gavin Loudspeaker began to set up RAFFLEMANIA~! when we were joined by Juan Francisco de Coronado. Juan let everyone know that he is a man of the people and will be giving everyone 2 gifts tonight. First, the gift of him wrestling and 2nd the reward of seeing Frightmare wrestle as scheduled. Jaun said in his home country of Ecuador he is known as "Cabeza de Manzana" --- a man of the people. This led the crowd to chanting Apple Head, since that is the translation.
(7) Frightmare b Juan Francisco de Coronado in almost 7 minutes with a body scissors after a restart. Juan originally pinned Frightmare with his high waist German Suplex, but referee Bryce Remsburg caught Juan's feet in the ropes. Remsburg missed this the night before and then declared the match wasn't over. This was the most fun a JFDC match has been since I've been watching. Frightmare had the right energy and polish as an opponent. Crowd coined a new chant for Juan chanting "YAWN". Post-match, Juan was angry and began giving Frightmare some wicked high wasited German Suplexes (3, in fact). "Smooth Sailin'" Ashley Remington made the save in street clothes and chased Juan away. A stipulation rubber match seems likely for Tomorrow Never Dies.
RAFFLEMANIA~! time and the heartbeat of Chikara main event set-up.
(8) The Throwbacks ("Mr. Touchdown" Mark Angelosetti & Dasher Hatfield) b 3.0 ("Big Magic" Shane Matthews & Scott "Jagged" Parker) in two straight falls to retain the Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas in their first defense in 18 minutes. This was good, despite a really quick finish and confusion as to where this leads next.
-Hatfield p Parker in 16 minutes after a 3D. The first fall was really strong. The story was 3.0, challenging friends, was attempting to be the first time 3-time Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas. 3.0 is only weeks removed from their time traveling running mate Archibald Peck getting killed by Deucalion, so they have that "Win one for Archie" bit going for them as well. This started slow with some good chain wrestling. It built to 3.0 slowly cheating a bit. They claimed that it was a big, important match and they had to do what they had to do. Eventually, Parker got hit with a 3D and pinned. Really strong as a one fall match, but Chikara's tag title matches are 2 out of 3 falls. The referee rang the bell for fall 2 and Matthews jumped the Throwbacks. Crowd booed. He immediately had the tables turned on him and ...
-Hatfield p Matthews in 18 minutes after a 3D to retain the titles. Crowd was a little surprised by this and the pop for the good guys winning was muted a bit because of it. Especially after the Black-Jacobs match, this was a bit unexpected. The Throwbacks tried to help 3.0 up after the match, but they walked off and refused to shake hands. A heel turn and an upgrade to 4.0 could be exactly what the doctor ordered for these guys next season.
Sidney Bakabella & Devastation Corporation (Blaster McMassive & Max Smashmaster) came out as the Throwbacks celebrated. The trio were all wearing Zubaz. I'd never seen Bakabella in them and that was a hilarious addition. They teased fighting the Throwbacks now. The Throwback wanted to fight now. Bakabella declared DevCorp would be taking the Chikara Campeonatos de Parejas at Tomorrow Never Dies on December 6th on iPPV.
This was a really strong hard sell and made me wish Chikara had like a 30 minute spot on Cartoon Network or something every week. They'd do gangbusters. The weekend was, as always, a fun ride for Chikara. The combo of shows wasn't as strong as the NC/Richmond trip, but there is no such thing as a bad Chikara show. The group works hard and the crowd wants to have fun.
