2015 TOP PROSPECT TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINAL MATCH: Donovan Dijak vs. Ashley Sixx- 5/10
They did a spot where Dijak was hunched over and Sixx chopped him in the top of the head, and it just look SOOOO stupid. I couldn't even tell if he actually hit him at first. I had to go back and rewind to confirm that he made any contact at all. After that, the match was good, as they told a good big man vs. little man story, and Dijak got the win.
Steve Corino is new referring to Kevin Steen as "K.O." which would be eh at best, except that ROH already has Kyle O'Reilly who has used that nickname (if not in ROH than other places), so in addition to being meh, the name might also cause confusion.
Kevin Kelly promised us "a live, in-ring Fish Tank." It took me, a dedicated fan, a few moments to remember that "Fish Tank" is the name of reDRagon's rarely-used talk show segment, so I can only imagine a new fan being completely puzzled and wondering why they were going to put a home aquarium in the ring.
2015 TOP PROSPECT TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINAL MATCH: Beer City Bruiser vs. Will Ferrara- 5.75/10
Like the previous, match but better.
FISH TANK, WITH SPECIAL GUESTS: THE YOUNG BUCKS- fun. The Bucks will be the babyfaces in this feud. The Knights of the New Dawn guys also showed up to watch.
TOMMASO CIAMPA PROMO- okay hype for both his match against Jimmy Jacobs and for the ROH World Title match at the 13th Anniversary Show.
Q.T. MARSHALL vs. RODERICK STRONG- AWESOME squash.
Marshall appears to have bulked up since we saw him last. He ran his mouth, then got squashed like a bug.
POST-MATCH SEGMENT- BJ Whitmer came out to run his mouth. Roddy said “let’s fight.” BJ said “not now.”
THE KINGDOM PROMO- good. Particular props are due to Maria who didn’t speak at all, but just used facials and body language to sell her nervousness at having to face ODB.
THE BRISCOES & ODB vs. THE KINGDOM (Michael Bennett, Matt Taven, & Maria Kanellis)- 6.75/10
Nigel joined them on commentary and announced Roddy vs. BJ for the 13th Anniversary Show.
This was a really fun main event. ODB played her role perfectly (aside from the part where she, the woman who is so tough she can wrestle with the men, kicked Matt Taven in the nuts for no reason), especially when she no-sold Maria’s offense. That was a great spot. That being said… I don’t think we need to see ODB again. She did her stuff. It was fun once. Let it be.
The finish, which saw Taven and Bennett double superkick ODB’s head off, looked completely awesome, and that smirk Maria had on her face while she pinned ODB made it even better.
A very good show from ROH, moving a lot of things forward while also giving us some good wrestling.
