EVOLVE 53/54 Updates

Last night at 7:36 we received the type of phone call that we hate getting. Let's get to it....

January 20th: EVOLVE Champion Timothy Thatcher informed us yesterday evening that he has a staph infection on his leg. He is currently taking an antibiotic and should be completely healthy in a matter of days. However, it was mutually decided that Thatcher should not wrestle this weekend since there is a risk of infecting others. We apologize for this cancellation, but we are sure that you understand. Thatcher will still be at all three events this weekend. In fact, the weekend will kickoff with Thatcher addressing the fans. As soon as we received the news from Thatcher we picked up the phone and made some calls....

January 20th: Sami Callihan will now team with Zack Sabre Jr. in the EVOLVE Tag Team Title Tournament. It will be Callihan & Sabre Jr. vs. Chris Hero & Tommy End in the 1st round this Saturday in Ybor City, FL. We want to thank Sami Callihan for making himself available on the Friday event on short notice. Callihan and Sabre Jr. have a history in EVOLVE. They had a memorable match at EVOLVE 7. We will reveal now that it was Callihan who asked EVOLVE officials to book that match since he is a fan of Sabre Jr. and wanted to wrestle him in EVOLVE. Now they will team and try to make history by becoming the first EVOLVE Tag Team Champions!

January 20th: We are very excited to announce that Tommaso Ciampa has been added to this Saturday's EVOLVE 54 and this Sunday's EVOLVE 55 events in Orlando. Ciampa has made an impact in NXT and now he is finally coming to EVOLVE. It will be Ciampa vs. Ethan Page on Saturday. Ciampa will wrestle someone eliminated from the tag team tournaments on Sunday.

This event will feature the Semi-Finals of the EVOLVE Tag Team Title Tournament and the opening matches of the Second Chance Tag Team Tournament.

The winning teams at EVOLVE 53 on January 22nd in Ybor City, FL will participate in the Semi-Finals. The losing teams at EVOLVE 53 will be in the Second Chance Tag Team Tournament.

Hmmm... I'm really curious as to what Gabe had planned for Thatcher, as I can see any number of guys in position to get a pin on him to set up a title shot- possibly Mania weekend if it's someone like Riddle or Gulak.

One would assume this means that Sami and Sabre will be out in the first round, but I don't see Gabe wanting to beat Sabre that quickly (unless he knows WWE is about to sign him), and beating Sami in his first match back doesn't sound like a good idea, so... hmmm. We'll see what Gabe comes up with. He's usually pretty good at this sort of thing.
