BRM Reviews the 3/1/2016 Impact

Post by Big Red Machine » Mar 2nd, '16, 17:08

QUICK BIT WITH SPUD & MATT’S FATION BACKSTAGE- didn’t like it.
Spud in leather jacket=bad
Reby holding baby instead of Tyrus= bad

BOBBY ROODE vs. KURT ANGLE- 8/10
Yeah it was a finisher overkill, but for some reason it worked for me this time. Awesome match. Roode is at the level where beating Kurt doesn’t do anything for him anymore and he isn’t doing anything as a singles wrestler right now, so I had no problem with Kurt beating him to give Kurt a little feel-good moment on his way out.

POST-MATCH BIT WITH BEER MONEY PUTTING KURT OVER- great!
I popped for the milk… and Kurt came out of this looking like many, many people popped all over him if you know what I mean.
They transitioned this beautifully into Kurt putting over the idea of Beer Money vs. Wolves and then we got a decent segment with Beer Money and the Wolves… aside from that one time where Kurt randomly wandered in front of the camera. That made me laugh.

GAIL KIM PROMO- I really don’t care about Gail vs. Maria.

HARDY FACTION & SPUD PROMO- Based on these promos, I think they should name this group “the Hardy Family.” It fits what Matt has been saying, and should also get great heat when Matt eventually denies that Jeff is part of that family. Everyone was great here- especially Spud. The stuff with Ethan was good, too.

HARDY FAMILY & DIXIE BACKSTAGE- fine.

NO DISQUALIFICATIONS MATCH: Jimmy Havoc vs. Abyss (w/Decay)- 6/10
We’ve seen the cheese grater to the crotch spot so many times that it doesn’t mean anything anymore and it looks so bad (HE’S WEARING PANTS!) that I wish they would just never do it again. In fact, we’ve seen every spot in this match too many times to care. There was the table spot, the swing and miss with Janice spot, the barbed wire board spot… it was every short weapons match with Abyss you’ve ever seen, which feels like a once a month occurrence at this point.

I’m also just not into this whole story at all. TNA is trying to play this whole Jimmy Havoc thing up like some big mystery of Rosemary’s past, but we only met Rosemary a few weeks ago and we haven’t learned anything about her. We don’t know her well enough to care about some mystery of her past. If she were just some random schmoe and not Courtney Rush, no one would give anything even resembling a crap about her.

EC III PROMO ON SPUD- great

GAIL & MARIA SEGMENT- good
This shirt Gail is wearing is utterly ridiculous. It’s got a turtleneck in the front but a huge dip in the back! Gail’s promo was good. Maria was AWESOME! Jade attacking Gail was fine, but I was initially quite disappointed upon seeing it simply because this feud has been going on forever. I think the best thing for all involved is for Jade to win the belt very soon and then have Gail go off to feud with Maria away from the title picture.

TNA KING OF THE MOUNTAIN TITLE MATCH: Eric Young(c) (w/Bram) vs. Big Damo- 4.75/10

DREW GALLOWAY PROMO- fine

DREW GALLOWAY vs. MIKE BENNETT (w/Maria Kanellis)- 6.5/10
Perfect finish for this point in the feud.

GRADO INTERVIEW- GRRRRRR!!!!!
Fired means NOT IN THE COMPANY ANYMORE! WHY IS HE GETTING TV TIME?!

TYRUS AND MATT JUMP ETHAN, BUT HE LOCKS THEM IN A TRACTOR-TRAILER- I appreciate that they came up with a reason for why Matt and Tyrus couldn’t interfere, but this just looked so goofy.

UNSANCTIONED MATCH: Rockstar Spud vs. Ethan Carter III- 6.5/10
The finish worked perfectly for what it needed to do.

A very good show from TNA, although starting with the killer match did mean that show pretty much started on its high note and went downhill from there.

i rewatched this again, and I'm perfectly ok with it. For the first time since he joined TNA, it felt like he was a normal functional person, hopefully TNA has figured out what made Grado a great babyface in ICW

Yeah... but that doesn't mean that it makes sense for TNA to be giving him TV time. This is the sort of thing that you have Grado upload onto his YouTube page and then you talk about it when he crashes this week's show. You don't give him a camera and let him cut a promo during Impact.
