BRM Reviews CHIKARA The Bobliographon (GREAT!)

CHIKARA The Bobliographon (4/26/2009)- Philadelphia, PA

CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI vs. SHADOW PHOENIX- 6/10
A very fun Lucha Libre opener.

SUPER SMASH BROTHERS PROMO- very good.
They had a good showing in their non-King of Trios matches King of Trios weekend, and now they are coming for the Campeonatos de Parejas… and tonight they are going to become the first team to ever win all three points required to earn a title shot in just one single match. I thought this promo did a tremendous job of building a sense of importance for the upcoming match. So much so that I would have had this air immediately before the match instead of the…

2.0 PROMO- fine
Like all 2.0 promos, this dragged a bit, but it is extremely entertaining to listen to these two just… well… be 2.0.

FOUR CORNERS TAG TEAM ELIMINATION MATCH: Super Smash Brothers vs. Cheech & Cloudy vs. 2.0 vs. The UnStable (Colin Delaney & STIGMA)- 6.75
2.0, who had just cut a promo about how proud they were to have won their first ever point, are eliminated first, and Shane Matthews was very upset about it. SSB eliminated The UnStable, which made Colin Delaney unhappy as well. So unhappy, in fact, that he attacked Player Dos. It didn’t affect the finish, though, as Dos was eventually able to make a hot tag to Uno. SSB and Cheech & Cloudy had a good final two segment, leading us into a good finish.

ULTRAMANTIS BLACK & CROSSBONES PROMO- UMB brags about having come into possession of some sort of ultimate power. Sure, Mantis. I’ll believe it when I see it.

CREATE-A-WRESTLER vs. ULTRAMANTIS BLACK (w/Crossbones)- 4/10
Short but solid. Distractions by Crossbones first prevent Mantis from being pinned and then allow him to roll Create-A-Wrestler up for the victory.

INCOHERENCE (Delirious, Hallowicked, & Frightmare) vs. THE ROUGHNECKS (Eddie Kingston, Brodie Lee, & Grizzly Redwood)- 8/10
Before the match Brodie shoved the ref and attacked the ring announcer. He also briefly got into a shoving match with Kingston.
This was an absolutely awesome textbook babyfaces vs. heels tag team match. The Roughnecks were 100% ON tonight, and the babyfaces’ lanky frames, combined with their selling, made them very effective babyfaces in peril. The match build extremely well and had some great spots and convincing false finishes. HOLY CRAP that Kneecolepsy!
Brodie was arguing with the referee after the match, which allowed Frightmare to steal back a mask of Hallowicked’s that Brodie had stolen at an earlier date which he had been carrying around with him to taunt Hallowicked with.

POST-MATCH SEGMENT- very important
As Delirious made his way to the back he was accosted by Crossbones. Then UltraMantis Black grabbed him by the head from behind and abducted him.

CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI PROMO- good promo hyping up about three feuds at once.

SARA DEL REY vs. SHARK GIRL- 1.5/10
On commentary Louden Noxious notes that UltraMantis Black wore a pink vest last night, and that Shark Girl also wears a pink vest. He asked UMB if he had a soft spot for Shark Girl, to which UMB indignantly replied “I get soft for no woman!” On CHIKARA commentary.
They did some comedy revolving around Shark Girl’s proclivity for biting, then had about three minutes of a serious match.

THE OSIRIAN PORTAL vs. THE FUTURE IS NOW (Lince Dorado, Equinox, & Helios)- 7/10
The Osirian Portal jumped The Future Is Now from behind during their entrance. They controlled the match for a while, but eventually it became clear that Escorpio Egipcio was not on the same page as Amasis and Ophidian, so they eventually walked out on him.

VIN GERARD PROMO- the words were good and the emotion was good but the delivery needs some work.

GLACIER vs. VIN GERARD (w/the UnStable)- 0.5/10
The story of this match was that Gerard needed outside help to defeat Glacier and they got that across effectively. The problem is that the action in this match- or more specifically, the lack thereof- was extremely boring. And that was BEFORE Vin Gerard hurt his leg.

MIKE QUACKENBUSH, JIGSAW, SOLDIER ANT & FIRE ANT vs. BUCKE HAWKE & TEAM F.I.S.T.- 8.25/10
Lots of action here, as you would expect from an atomicos match. F.I.S.T. always come across as a dangerous, cohesive unit, and the story of Hawke initially being completely useless but improving to the point where he was actually a useful member of his team by the end was an unusual one, but they told it well. And speaking of the end… holy crap that finishing sequence was CRAZY!

A GREAT show from CHIKARA! There was a lot of strong wrestling, we had what would develop into a MAJOR storyline development with the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple abducting Delirious, and aside from the Glacier match everything was very good for the time it got.
