PWG Mystery Vortex IV (12/16/2016)- Reseda, CA

TRENT? vs. CANDICE LERAE- 7.25/10
Can someone please explain to me why no promotion has pushed Candice LeRae as their top babyface? The only reason I can think of for why this hasn’t happened is that she has some sort of terrible, dark side to her that only people in the industry know, like she gets off on drowning puppies or something (now you know why Johnny Gargano had to sign with WWE: so that he could afford this expensive bedroom habit). Otherwise it just doesn’t make any sense. Find me a better seller in the world of pre wrestling right now. You can’t do it. Because there aren’t any.
Candice’s outstanding selling skills were on full display in this match, as was her exciting babyface comeback offense. Trent played his role well, too, but dear Lord is Candice a fantastic babyface.

ACH vs. TREVOR LEE- 6.75/10
Well… that was one hell of a finish.

MATT SYDAL vs. PETE DUNNE- 7.5/10
There was some very impressive athletic stuff in here, but it also felt disjointed at times. Dunne would be a lot better if he just stopped doing those idiotic, pointless biting spots.

DEATH BY ELBOW vs. reDRagon- 8/10
“He just arm dragged him onto his head.”
Aside from that, this was a really awesome hard-hitting tag team match that did start to drag a little towards the end, but not enough to prevent it from still being awesome.

#1 CONTENDERSHIP MATCH: Adam Cole vs. Chuck Taylor- 6.5/10
Not going to lie… Excalibur and Chuck came off like the douchebag heels in the beginning of this one, which is the exact opposite of the way this should be.
This was a lot of what I don’t like about PWG all meshed into one match: the commentary that is some sort of inside joke, stupid antics interrupting the match, dick-biting in front of the referee with no DQ, head-drop and kick-out overkill (do we really need to kick out of a f*cking Panama Destroyer after a low blow in a ten minute match?), but there is no denying that the crowd went NUTS or Chuck’s big victory at the end.

JEFF COBB & MATT RIDDLE vs. THE YOUNG BUCKS- 8.5/10
Cobb go to show off his power, Riddle got to show off his overall awesomeness, and the Bucks got to show off their ability to be entertaining heels without devolving into a rip-off of the year 1999. This was an excellent match where they made great use of everyone’s strengths. If he gets a contract with WWE and they let him be himself, Matt Riddle will be the next huge star in this industry. He’s that fantastically good.

PWG WORLD TITLE MATCH: Zack Sabre Jr.(c) vs. Marty Scurll- 5.75/10
I really didn’t like this match. It was way too stop-and-start for a match where they focusing on submissions. It felt like it too them a half hour to get out of first gear and they never got out of second. If they had had a smooth-flowing grapplef*ck-y match I think it would have worked a lot better.
I also absolutely hated the overbooking. It was just so pointless. Marty having to head all the way to the back to get the title belt felt completely contrived, and why did he even go to get the belt anyway when he had his umbrella? Why can’t we just have clean main events anymore?

An otherwise great show from PWG brought down by a very disappointing main event.
