ROH Final Battle 2018 Final Card

Post by cero2k » Nov 27th, '18, 10:23

It will take place Dec 14 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. Here is the current card. Gonna be a hell of a night of wrestling that's for sure. What are your thoughts on the card? What match are you most looking forward to?

Jay Lethal (c) vs. Cody (ROH World Championship)

Sumie Sakai (c) vs. Madison Rayne vs. Karen Q vs. Kelly Klein (ROH Women of Honor World Championship Four Corner Survival Match)

Jeff Cobb (c) vs. Adam Page (ROH World TV Championship)

Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian (c) vs. The Young Bucks vs. The Briscoes (ROH World Tag Team Championship Ladder Match)

Flip Gordon vs. Bully Ray ("I Quit" Match)

Marty Scurll vs. Christopher Daniels (Rights to future ROH World Title match)

Matt Taven vs. Dalton Castle

Jonathan Gresham vs. Zack Sabre Jr.

looks really strong on paper, the undercard specifically. I really really hope that they finally take the title off Sakai, I don't like the options, but I guess give it to Klein and let people chase a heel now.

Lethal vs Scurll at Wrestle Kingdom I take it?

I'm not sure where the stips on the Scurll vs. Daniels match came from (did Daniels trick Marty into putting his SOTF shot on the line?), but I actually think Daniels wins it, gets a title shot at the Anniversary Show, loses, and then retires.

As for the card, it's very strong on paper, but I'm worried about Delirious' notoriously poor PPV time-management skills.

The absolute minimum about of time I think each of these matches deserves is:
World Title- 18 (maybe you could go 16 because Cody is hurt, but only if it's not the main event)
Ladder War- 25
Cobb vs. Page- 18
Women's Title- 13
Daniels vs. Scurll- 15
Taven vs. Dalton- 18
Bully vs. Flip- 17
ZSJ vs. Gresham- 13 (as the opener, but even that will disappoint people because they expect much better than 13 minutes when you advertise Zack vs. Gresham)
That's a minimum of 2:15:00 of just wrestling, excluding all entrances, celebrations, and whatever else they have going on. The best thing to do would have been to have set up a four-way with Lethal, Taven, Dalton, and Cody (which flows much more naturally from the stories, anyway) that would have gone about 25, so you could give the rest of the time to necessary and angles.

not sure how they got there, but Scurll vs Daniels is indeed for Scurll's SOTF title shot
