WOTW: Way to debut

what would be the worst way for you to debut as a wrestler, or what do you consider to be the worst way to debut.

don't consider botched debuts like shockmaster

When I saw this topic, I thought "how could the answer possibly be anything other than the Gooker. At least they were able to turn the Shockmaster into comedy.

Why? He showed up his pro, then put on a strong showing against the World Champion.

This. The gooker is probably THE worst debut in the history of ever.

He was certainly the biggest let down along with a terrible debut.

I loved his entrances! Isn't he the dude in WCW that was lowered from the rafters playing a grand piano?

I'm with Dozer on this. While the things you say are true statements, he was not treated as a "breakout" talent. Along with the constant burial from a not-quite-turned Michael Cole, let's not forget how he was "welcomed" by Jericho (who was pinned clean by Heath Slater later in the season), and the fact that he went winless (0 for 8 or 0 for 10 or something). This all would have worked out had they followed through with the original plan of Bryan winning the contest and challenging Miz for the US Title, but changing directions the way they did took a lot of heat from Bryan. I'm all for having some established workers on NXT, but Dragon and Kaval were two guys that would have been better introduced by being placed directly on a roster.

As for WOTW: The Gooker will forever go down as the worst debut in the history of Wrestling. Wrestlecrap.com, a site dedicated to awful wrestling angles, has a hall of fame of sorts where they induct one angle a year. They call this "The Gooker Award".

With that in mind, I'd like to at least mention the vignettes leading up to Steven Regal's WWF debut...

Terry Taylor showing up in the WWF as The Red Rooster was pretty bad. Also a young Kevin Nash as Oz in WCW. What a horrible gimmick and character.

Everyone forgets about the promo Dragon cut after he was eliminated. Dragon said something along the lines of:
"I lose every match to rookies, but take Batista and Chris Jericho to the limit?"- he did a great job insinuating that he lost to the rookies because he didn't care, and felt that the competition was beneath him. He ended it something along the lines of "a little less Daniel Bryan and a lot more Bryan Danielson." It seems fairly obvious to me that WWE had an entirely different direction planned for everyone in NXT, which they scrapped when they came up with the Nexus invasion (and I mean only the invasion and feud with WWE as an entity- there is no way that WWE had the entire feud with Cena planned out. Hell, I'd be surprised if WWE even knew what they were going to do THE NEXT WEEK when they did the Nexus invasion).

I think you're taking it a little too far; I wouldn't give WWE that much credit.

If they didn't want him to say that, they wouldn't have continued his program with Cole. They would have released him right then and there.

That was a good segment. It established two characters at once.
