DDT Ultimate Tag League 2021 In Wrestle Universe!!
May 10, 2021
Wrestle Budokan, Saitama, Japan

Ultimate Tag League 2021 Match
TheIYASARERUs (Antonio Honda & Chris Brookes) [2] vs. DAMNATION (Daisuke Sasaki & Yuji Hino) [1] - 5/10
Honda tried his Gon The Fox trick early on and managed to get the jump on both Hino and Sasaki, but Sasaki quickly recovered and instead, Honda ended up being worked for a while before Brookes got the hot tag. Brookes had some offense over Sasaki, but eventually, Hino came in and with Honda running away from him, Brookes had to take on Hino and try to go chop-to-chop with him.

Honda did a second Gon The Fox spot, except it was about the Monster Army, the old stable where Sasaki, Hino, and Honda all wrestled together. It worked for a second, but Sasaki recovered and submitted Honda with the Crossover Facelock.

The match wasn't that good, the Honda stuff is funny with certain wrestlers, but Sasaki and Hino were not those guys, not even the corpsing was fun. Brookes wrestling them wasn't enough to save it either, it was good, just not enough to counter the lack of action when Honda was in there. Honda needs to get himself an extra schtick if he wants to have these longer matches.

Ultimate Tag League 2021 Match
Eruption (Kazusada Higuchi & Yukio Sakaguchi) [0] vs. The 37KAMIINA (Konosuke Takeshita & Shunma Katsumata) [1] - 8.5/10
Really good match, it took a while to hit second gear, mainly because Katsumata didn't become a credible threat until further in the match where his offense worked against an already tired and injured Eruption. Takeshita vs Higuchi was great, as was Higuchi and Take, but again, having to get Katsu in there sometimes slowed down the match.

There was a spot that I wasn't a big fan off, it felt totally unnecessary for this match, and that was Higuchi chokeslamming Take into a table on the floor. It was in a way to write him down from the action to set up the finish with Eruption killing Katsu 2-on-1, but I think that could had been done without resorting to a table spot. At the end, Higuchi got the win with a Brainclaw Slam on Katsu.

Post-match - Higuchi cut a short promo saying that this was their first match and first victory, and that's how the whole tournament would go, with them winning.

OVERALL THOUGHTS
This show suffered from the the venue, or at least the camera work I watched the show with, it was pretty much the steady cam with some slight zooming in and out depending on the spots. I don't think the opener had a lot of saving with more camera angles, but the latter for sure would had benefited given the striking and big spots in the match. It was two matches, they went by fast, so no complains.

Final Standings
Antonio Honda & Chris Brookes - 1-0-1 [2]
Jun Akiyama & Makoto Oishi - 0-0-1 [0]
Daisuke Sasaki & Yuji Hino - 1-1-0 [3]
Konosuke Takeshita & Shunma Katsumata - 0-1-0 [1]
Kazusada Higuchi & Yukio Sakaguchi - 1-0-0 [2]
