BRM Reviews the 2/21/2012 Smackdown

Post by Big Red Machine » Feb 22nd, '12, 01:39

OPENING SEGMENT- eh, but it set up perfectly for...

SHEAMUS vs. THE MIZ- 5.25/10

BACKSTAGE SEGMENT IN TEDDY LONG'S OFFICE- bad. The Aksana stuff hasn't gone anywhere for months, and Teddy's attempts to insult Ace & Otunga were horrendous. Teddy Long has been the least enjoyable person on WWE TV for about a year now.

KOFI KINGSTON & R-TRUTH vs. DOLPH ZIGGLER & JACK SWAGGER (w/Vickie Guerrero)- 3.5/10. Ridiculously short. What was the point of this match? A match that goes three minutes only featuring Raw guys.

SANTINO & HEATH SLATER BACKSTAGE- moronic waste of time.

THE GREAT KHALI vs. DREW MCINTYRE- squash. BOOO! McIntyre should not be getting squashed.

MARK HENRY vs. THE BIG SHOW- 4/10, mostly on the strength of Mark Henry's attitude while on offense. I really didn't like the fact that they didn't announce an official result.

PLUG FOR "ARE YOU SERIOUS"- Josh Matthews & Road Dogg MST3King Wrestle-crap? Sure. I could watch that.

EZEKIEL JACKSON vs. DAVID OTUNGA- 3/10.
Exactly the same thing we got on Raw.

CM PUNK PROMO- very good

CM PUNK vs. DANIEL BYRAN- 7/10. A great match that was hurt by overbooking. If they had just kept going, rather than restarting twice, this probably would have made it to an 8.

Overall an okay episode of Smackdown.

I disagree about Teddy Long; he's hilarious to me, esp with Aksana. But tonite his insults were weak as hell.

The only problem I had with the Santino bit was that it didn't lead to a match; I was sure he and Slater would at least have a short squash after that. Maybe the Cobra will begin to spit now?

I gotta agree about everything else though; esp McIntyre. At least don't make him lose to Khali!

That's part of it. It just felt random and stupid because there was no follow-up.

As for the Cobra spitting, wouldn't that be illegal, as it would basically be like using the mist?

since when was the mist illegal? I know guys usually do it when the refs back is turned, but I always wondered why the ref never dq'd Tajiri or Muta after noticing the green or red all over their opponents' faces, lol. Kwang would do it right in front of the ref (at least in his match v. Taker he did).

I'm sure Santino would do the cobra spit while the ref wasn't looking; plus it'd leave no evidence, so he could def get away with it so long as the ref wasn't looking....

Hasn't it always been illegal? I have never seen Tajiri, MsChif, Muta, Delirious, or anyone else who does it do so in front of the ref.

I may just be remembering Tajiri doing it in ECW. I forgot Harvey Whimppleman was Kwang's manager when he fought Taker.

I still just never understand that, if it's illegal why does the ref never DQ's the guy when he sees the powder/mist on the other guys face....

Not sure. I actually never thought about that.

that's what pissed me off so much about WM9; Bret had powder all over his face and the ref pretended nothing happened.

I guess its that old time honored tradition "If the ref didn't see it with his eyes it didn't happen " rule of fairness, but it seems a bit too far here.
When they come, they'll come at what you love.
