BRM Reviews the 4/20/2012 Smackdown

Post by Big Red Machine » Apr 23rd, '12, 06:56

DANIEL BRYAN PROMO- good. WWE’s editing the crowd noise here was very obvious.

DANIEL BRYAN & AJ SEGMENT- WHAT A JERK! Just like James Storm is running away with the Babyface Of The Year award, Dragon is running away with the Heel Of The Year award.

NATALYA vs. AJ- No rating… AWESOME SEGMENT! I must fantasy book this! Get ready for “BRM Books: AJ Loves Dragon.”

DAMIEN SANDOW PROMO- Once again, this was awesome, but Sandow needs to start wrestling now.

BRODUS CLAY (w/Naomi, Cameron, & Hornswoggle) vs. HUNICO (w/Camacho)- well… this just killed my enjoyment of Brodus Clay.

TEDDY LONG AND A BUNCH OF PEOPLE BACKSTAGE- I’m not sure who these guys are, but their relentless mocking of Teddy Long has won them my support.

RANDY ORTON PROMO- Great

THE USOS vs. TITUS O’NEIL & DARREN YOUNG- 4.75/10
Still good for what it was.

THE BIG SHOW vs. ALBERTO DEL RIO (w/Ricardo Rodriguez)- 4.75/10

RYBACK vs. DANNY LERMAN- Squash. I’m really not sure what they are trying to get over by having the wrestlers in the back acknowledge that this match will be a squash.

DANIEL BRYAN, MARK HENRY, & CODY RHODES vs. RANDY ORTON, SHEAMUS, & THE BIG SHOW- 7.25/10

Overall, a pretty good episode of Smackdown.

=)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) "not sure who these guys are" :)) :)) :))

I'm surprised you didn't mention the segment with Teddy as the Beefeater; I thought it was the best segment of the night. It broke my heart watching Teddy have to be totally stoic while Aksana and Antonio flirted; and Ace was perfect here. This is the kinda heel work I love to see outside the ring. He's trying to make Teddy hate his life, not just his job.

I can't believe you actually liked that bs segment with Nattie and AJ; where are your arguments for logic here? Nattie can't overcome a 95lbs girl? Get outta here. Don't get me wrong, I like what they went for, but they used the wrong person. Nattie's the second strongest Diva on the roster (I'm not counting Kong, and I doubt Tamina is stronger than Nattie) and she essentially gets beatdown so bad by a 95lbs girl that the ref has to call the match? They shouldn't have used Nattie for this; it should have been Kaitlyn (AJ's best friend). I didn't like Nattie trying to console AJ before the match; again, I know what they were going for, but why would Nattie do this? I understand she's a fair competitor, but she's still a competitor.

This is one of those things that didn't use to happen in wrestling; regardless of the emotional state of ANY wrestler, when someone just goes berserk beats you down, revenge is a must. I find it hard to believe we didn't see Nattie backstage demanding a rematch (hopefully we'll get one tonight or friday). Still, I think this could have worked way better if it were Kaitlyn. Idk, I think I just feel like she should be involved with this angle bc her "best friend" is going through a rough time.....

I actually have no idea what you are referring to with the Teddy Long segment. I didn't see Aksana at all. I guess I must have missed it.

As for the AJ-Nattie thing, my logic is the following. This wasn't a squash. AJ got DQed for going after Nattie in the corner after about eight warnings. I think Nattie was taken by surprise by the normally gentle AJ being absolutely vicious, allowing AJ to back Nattie into the corner, and gain the advantage. I do agree with you that Kaitlyn would have been the better choice, but not because of Nattie's size.

I just figure that with Nattie's size, she could have easily powered out of that onslaught; AJ wasn't convincingly overwhelming her, imo. It was by no means a squash, but it's just hard to believe Nattie wouldn't be able to overcome the tantrum.
